The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has given in-principle approval for constructing over 1,000 affordable housing units in Gram Sindhora under PMAY 2.0, targeting economically weaker sections. The plan was approved during a mayor-in-council meeting, reflecting IMC's focus on addressing housing shortages. The meeting also cleared the formation of a Disaster Management Cell, appointing trained volunteers in each ward. Additional initiatives include city beautification through public participation, a survey and registration drive for street vendors, reimbursement for concessional travel passes, and a PPP-led clothes reuse project under the 3R model. These efforts aim to build a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Indore.
In a significant move to bolster affordable housing, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has given in-principle approval for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) concerning the construction of over 1,000 housing units in Gram Sindhora. The decision emerged from a recent mayor-in-council meeting, where the concerned department presented the DPR. The initiative underscores the IMC's commitment to addressing urban housing shortages and enhancing living standards for underprivileged communities.
Beyond housing, the meeting also focused on disaster preparedness. IMC announced the formation of a dedicated Disaster Management Cell to tackle natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, and fires. As part of this initiative, 8 to 10 'Disaster Friends' will be appointed in each ward, receiving specialized training in collaboration with the district administration and police.
In efforts to beautify the city, discussions were held on allowing social organizations to adopt and maintain dividers, green belts, and gardens. This move is expected to accelerate urban beautification and foster community involvement.
The council also addressed the need to support street vendors and cart operators by planning a comprehensive survey, online registration, and issuance of identity cards. An agency will be appointed to conduct this survey and provide the information to the Municipal Corporation within a defined timeframe.
Additionally, the IMC decided to reimburse expenses incurred in providing concessional monthly passes to students, senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and ragpickers. This measure aims to promote inclusive mobility within the city.
In line with sustainable practices, the mayor announced an initiative to reuse clothes collected from waste under the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) model through a public-private partnership. This plan received in-principle approval and is expected to enhance waste management efforts.
By approving the construction of affordable homes in Sindhora, the corporation addresses the pressing need for housing among economically weaker sections. Simultaneously, initiatives like the Disaster Management Cell and urban beautification projects demonstrate a commitment to creating a resilient and aesthetically pleasing urban environment. These multifaceted strategies signify a progressive step towards inclusive and sustainable urban governance in Indore.
