The Zirakpur Municipal Council has taken firm action against unauthorised construction in Mohali's New Defence Colony and Old Kalka Road. A builder's project was sealed for violating approved plans, posing safety risks. Residents welcomed the move, citing long-standing concerns. In a separate operation, illegal houses and structures on government land near Goldmark Vira City were demolished. The council emphasised strict penalties for breaches and urged public cooperation in reporting violations. These enforcement measures reflect a renewed commitment to urban planning compliance. In Mohali, firm action was taken by the Zirakpur Municipal Council against a builder who was found violating construction regulations in New Defence Colony. On Saturday, the ongoing construction was sealed by the council under the leadership of building inspector Shivani Bansal. The construction work was being carried out in violation of the approved building plan, raising safety concerns for nearby residents and breaching municipal building norms. Advertisement
According to Bansal, the structure being constructed did not align with the approved layout, and such unauthorised modifications posed a potential threat to the structural safety of the area. It was emphasised by her that no builder under her jurisdiction would be allowed to flout construction guidelines. She also added that a growing number of builders were being found guilty of ignoring these rules.
Strict action has been promised by the council against any further violations. Builders have been clearly warned to stick to the original and approved plans. Immediate penalties and legal action will be enforced on any party found guilty of breaching regulations. In addition, the public has been urged to come forward and report any unauthorised construction activities to the authorities. Residents' complaints will be taken seriously, and swift measures will be taken, the official stated.
Residents of New Defence Colony expressed relief following the sealing of the illegal construction. Many had been worried about the safety hazards caused by unregulated building practices in their locality. Some residents stated that they had raised concerns about the ongoing work for weeks but had seen no action until now. The recent move by the council has restored confidence among locals who were concerned about deteriorating safety standards.
In another operation carried out by the Zirakpur Municipal Council, several illegally built houses and structures on government land were demolished. This action was carried out under the supervision of building inspector Ajay Brar. The unauthorised buildings were located along Old Kalka Road, near the under-construction Goldmark Vira City project.
It was discovered that the houses had been occupied by workers for nearly a decade. Despite this, the land remained under government ownership, and no permissions had been granted for residential construction. Further investigation revealed that a weighbridge and entry gate had also been erected on public land by the builder, again without any prior approval from authorities.
The council has stated that illegal encroachments on government land will not be tolerated and that further demolitions will be conducted if similar violations are found elsewhere. Builders have been cautioned against unauthorised use of public property, and legal action is expected to follow in such cases.
The recent actions taken by the Zirakpur Municipal Council reflect a renewed effort to enforce construction laws and ensure compliance with urban planning regulations. Both sealing of unauthorised projects and demolition of encroachments send a strong message that such violations will not be overlooked.
