The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has intensified its B-Khata drive to regularize unauthorized properties and bring them under the tax net. Launched earlier this year, the initiative aims to issue temporary registrations to 27,616 such properties over the next 16 months. The drive has received a positive response, with over 2,300 B-Khatas issued so far. To ensure transparency and eliminate middlemen, MCC has implemented measures such as installing CCTV cameras and replacing officers. The initiative is expected to boost property tax revenue and streamline the registration process.
In a concerted effort to regularize unauthorized properties and enhance tax revenue, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has intensified its B-Khata drive. Launched earlier this year, the initiative aims to bring 27,616 unauthorized properties under the tax net within the next 16 months.
The state government had previously set a three-month deadline for the regularization of such properties. However, due to slow progress, the deadline was extended by another 16 months. The MCC has since received a positive response from property owners across all nine zones of the city.
As of the end of April, the MCC had issued 2,349 B-Khatas and 38,584 A-Khatas. The A-Khatas pertain to authorized properties, with a total of 182,167 such properties identified during the survey.
To address concerns about the involvement of middlemen and brokers in the registration process, the MCC has implemented several measures. These include installing CCTV cameras in all zonal offices, replacing officers to facilitate easier registration, and conducting door-to-door visits to verify documents before issuing Khatas.
MCC Commissioner Syed Tanveer Asif has been actively overseeing the progress of the initiative, ensuring that all pending cases are addressed promptly. The corporation has also equipped its zonal offices with necessary resources, such as computers, photocopiers, and printers, to streamline the registration process.
The B-Khata drive is expected to significantly boost property tax revenue and provide property owners with a legal document certifying their property's legitimacy. This initiative aligns with the state's broader efforts to regularize unauthorized properties and enhance urban governance.
By addressing concerns about transparency and involving the community in the verification process, the initiative aims to create a more organized and accountable urban environment. As the drive progresses, it is expected to set a precedent for other cities in the region, demonstrating the importance of inclusive urban planning and governance.
