The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has unveiled a budget of INR 886.3 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, focusing on improvements in basic infrastructure, including underground drainage, drinking water supply, and road facilities. The budget anticipates a total revenue of INR 741.2 crore, with grants amounting to approximately INR 500 crore from state and central governments.
Under the Smart Cities Mission, Mangaluru has implemented several projects to enhance urban living. The Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) has been instrumental in managing city operations, including traffic management, emergency response, and public safety. Additionally, the city has developed smart roads, improved public spaces, and introduced intelligent lighting systems to promote energy efficiency.
The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) is undertaking multiple projects to boost port capacity and efficiency. These initiatives include the development of additional berths, modernization of cargo handling equipment, and enhancement of logistics infrastructure. These projects are part of the port's golden jubilee celebrations and aim to strengthen Mangaluru's position as a key maritime hub.
In transportation, the Mangaluru Central-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express, inaugurated in December 2023, has improved connectivity between Karnataka and Goa. This semi-high-speed train covers the distance in approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes, offering enhanced comfort and reduced travel time for passengers.
Furthermore, the city is planning the Mangala Corniche project, a riverfront development initiative aimed at transforming the banks of the Netravati and Gurupura rivers into vibrant public spaces. This project envisions promenades, parks, and recreational facilities, contributing to urban beautification and tourism promotion.
Collectively, these infrastructure projects signify Mangaluru's commitment to sustainable urban development, improved connectivity, and enhanced quality of life for its residents.
