Mysuru is undergoing a major transformation in 2025 with over INR 8,600 crore invested in urban mobility and infrastructure. The proposed 102-km Peripheral Ring Road, backed by a INR 7.75 crore DPR allocation, aims to ease long-term congestion. A INR 120 crore KSRTC suburban bus terminal at Bannimantap will shift traffic out of the city centre. Rail upgrades at Mysuru Station and enhanced passenger amenities are underway. The recently inaugurated INR 8,478 crore Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has cut travel time to just 75 minutes, boosting regional connectivity. Together, these projects position Mysuru as a modern, well-connected, and future-ready urban hub in Karnataka.
As one of Karnataka's fastest-growing urban centers, Mysuru is stepping into a new phase of planned development that balances its heritage charm with future-ready infrastructure. Once known primarily for its palaces, parks, and yoga tourism, the city is now preparing for a surge in population and economic activity by investing in key mobility and connectivity projects.
A major development in the pipeline is the proposed Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), envisioned as a 102-kilometer six-lane carriageway encircling the city. The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has allocated INR 7.75 crore in the current fiscal year to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the PRR. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion on the existing Outer Ring Road and accommodate the city's expansion over the next 50 to 60 years.
In tandem with the PRR, the Karnataka state government has approved the construction of a new KSRTC suburban bus stand at Bannimantap, with an investment of INR 120 crore. This facility is designed to decongest the city center by redirecting bus traffic to the outskirts, thereby improving traffic flow and reducing pollution in the urban core.
Enhancing the city's rail infrastructure, the Mysuru Railway Station is undergoing significant upgrades. Recent inspections by local officials have highlighted improvements in passenger amenities, including the installation of new facilities and enhanced security measures. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to modernize the station and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.
Complementing these developments is the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, a 118-kilometer access-controlled highway inaugurated in March 2023. Constructed at a cost of INR 8,478 crore, the expressway has reduced travel time between the two cities from over three hours to approximately 75 minutes, significantly boosting connectivity and economic integration in the region.
These comprehensive initiatives underscore Mysuru's commitment to sustainable urban development, aiming to create a more connected, efficient, and livable city for its residents and visitors alike.
