The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a special drive to streamline the processing of building permissions, occupancy certificates, and regularisation applications for all types of buildings. This initiative, which began earlier this month, will continue throughout the next month. GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania stated that the programme aims to resolve the challenges faced by builders and allottees in obtaining timely approvals while addressing outstanding building-related matters. With 197 pending construction permits, the drive seeks to ensure efficient processing. Operating from the GMC office in Uzan Bazar, the initiative also aims to eliminate intermediary involvement. Property owners and builders are encouraged to participate actively to clear their pending applications.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a special drive to facilitate the approval of building permissions, occupancy certificates, and regularisation applications for structures of all categories. The initiative, which began earlier this month, is set to continue until the end of next month.
GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania explained that this effort is aimed at resolving difficulties encountered by builders and property allottees in securing authorisations in a timely manner. Additionally, it seeks to address outstanding building-related matters efficiently.
He highlighted that there are currently 197 pending building construction permits in the city, which will be processed as part of this initiative. The programme is being conducted from GMC's Uzan Bazar office and is designed to eliminate the need for intermediaries entirely.
Sarania mentioned that the special drive is focused on accelerating the approval process while reducing unnecessary delays with the cooperation of GMC officials. He stated that the procedures have been streamlined to ensure approvals are more accessible and straightforward for property owners and builders.
He also pointed out that building-related applications often face setbacks due to verification process lapses, which are further delayed by a lack of response from both sides. Through this initiative, citizens are being encouraged to actively engage in resolving their pending applications without unnecessary delays.
The mayor provided details on the required documentation for occupancy certificate applications, which include land records, building completion certificates, certification from the Chief Electrical Inspector-cum-Adviser of Assam, a no-objection certificate (NOC) for lift usage from the Chief Inspector of Lifts and Escalators, Assam, and an NOC from the Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Assam.
The GMC's initiative aims to streamline the approval process for various building-related permissions, addressing the persistent challenges faced by property owners and developers. If successful, this initiative could serve as a model for future urban planning and governance efforts in the city.
