According to Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran, the inspection served as a preliminary assessment ahead of an upcoming board meeting, where discussions on land acquisition will take place. The primary objective of this exercise was to streamline the process of acquiring land for both the Metro Rail and highway improvement projects along Sathyamangalam Road, ensuring efficient planning and execution.
The commissioner highlighted that INR 56 crore had been sanctioned for a 3km highway improvement project. As part of this plan, authorities aim to acquire 20 metres of land for a 1km stretch between Textool Bridge and Surya Hospital. Given that the Metro Rail project also requires land in the same corridor, officials suggested merging the acquisition process to extend the acquired land to 24 metres. This approach is expected to minimise disruptions, optimise costs, and create a more structured development path for both projects.
To evaluate the feasibility of this integration, officials from both departments undertook a detailed inspection of the proposed land area. The assessment aimed to determine whether a combined acquisition would be logistically and financially viable.
While discussions on this proposal are set to take place in the upcoming Board Committee meeting, the national highway department has urged authorities to prioritise land acquisition for the 1km stretch, emphasising the urgency of the highway improvement project. Officials noted that while the Metro Rail project's land acquisition process is expected to take longer due to various procedural factors, aligning it with the highway expansion could enhance coordination and efficiency.
