The Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) is accelerating efforts on the long-awaited New Kanpur City project, covering 53.31 hectares in its first phase across several villages. With 45 hectares acquired and local farmers agreeing to contribute 5 more, KDA is working to secure the remaining 39.69 hectares with a state government nod expected soon. A budget of INR 183.5 crore has been allocated for essential infrastructure like roads, sewerage, and water supply. Efforts to reclaim encroached lands valued at INR 8 billion are also underway. The Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) is making significant strides in advancing the New Kanpur City project, which has been in the planning stages since 1996. This initiative aims to create a modern urban space that can accommodate the growing population and improve living conditions in the region. The KDA is currently focused on developing a comprehensive site plan that considers the topography and land use of the area.


The first phase of the New Kanpur City project covers 53.31 hectares and includes several villages: Sambalpur, Gangapur, Chakbada, Singhpur Kachar, Hindupur, and Bairi Akbarpur. So far, the KDA has successfully acquired around 45 hectares of land, and local farmers have agreed to contribute an additional 5 hectares, bringing the total to 50 hectares. This cooperation from the farming community is crucial for the project's progress, as it helps facilitate the necessary infrastructure development, which includes roads, sewerage systems, and drinking water pipelines.

To support these efforts, the KDA has allocated a budget of INR 183.5 crore for infrastructure development. The district administration is also working on acquiring the remaining 39.69 hectares needed for the initial phase. Approval from the state government is expected soon, which will allow the KDA to begin the acquisition process. This step is vital to ensure that the project can move forward without delays.

In addition to land acquisition, the KDA is addressing issues of illegal land occupation. There have been instances of encroachment on KDA-owned lands, prompting the authority to take action. Recently, KDA officials successfully recovered about 70 bighas of land in Sanigawan village and initiated evacuation procedures for illegal occupants. Ongoing verification efforts have revealed that KDA lands in several areas, including Bara Sirohi, Maswanpur, Panki Gangaganj, and Daheli Sujanpur, are valued at approximately INR 8 billion.

The KDA is also reviewing its existing residential schemes, tracking around 1,200 plots to ensure proper management and prevent further encroachment. This comprehensive approach is essential not only for the New Kanpur City project but also for maintaining the integrity of the KDA's land holdings.

As the New Kanpur City project progresses, it holds the promise of transforming the area into a well-planned urban center.
