The Gujarat government, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has approved INR 605.48 crore for urban development projects across various municipalities under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMSVY). Key allocations include INR 88.88 crore for railway overbridges in Dwarka and Dhrangadhra, INR 112.53 crore for water supply schemes in Khambhat and Dahod, and INR 99.89 crore for stormwater drainage in Bhavnagar. The plan also includes INR 40 crore for new gardens, INR 39 crore for libraries, and INR 104 crore for Vadodara's modernization efforts. The Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has made a significant investment of INR 605.48 crore for urban development projects across various municipalities and municipal corporations in the state. This funding is part of the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMSVY), which was initiated in 2010 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance urban infrastructure. The approved funds will support a wide range of projects aimed at improving urban living conditions. These include stormwater drainage systems, lake beautification, urban road construction, water supply enhancements, and the development of railway overbridges. Specifically, INR 88.88 crore has been allocated for railway overbridges in the municipalities of Dwarka and Dhrangadhra, which are expected to ease traffic congestion and improve transportation efficiency. In total, the funding will benefit numerous municipalities, including Limbdi, Mandvi-Kutch, Mundra-Barai, Viramgam, Bardoli, Bilimora, Valsad, and others. It will also extend to the Vadodara and Bhavnagar Municipal Corporations, as well as the Bhavnagar and Rajkot Urban Development Authorities. This broad allocation underscores the government's commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and providing better facilities for residents. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of essential services such as water supply, electricity, sewerage, and roads in urban areas. In addition to infrastructure, the government is focusing on environmental sustainability and enhancing public spaces. As part of this initiative, INR 40 crore has been approved for the development of new gardens across 25 municipalities, promoting environmental preservation and providing recreational areas for citizens.
Moreover, INR 39 crore has been allocated for the construction of libraries in 13 municipalities, aiming to foster a culture of reading and learning. An additional INR 1.50 crore has been approved for establishing smart libraries in 22 municipalities, reflecting a commitment to modernizing educational resources in urban areas. Further investments include INR 112.53 crore for water supply schemes in Khambhat and Dahod, with specific projects to improve the water supply network. This includes a new pipeline system from the Pata Dungri Dam in Dehod, which will interconnect waterworks in the municipality, ensuring a reliable water supply for residents.
Additionally, the government has allocated funds for beautification projects in Sanand, Viramgam, and Bhavnagar, including road improvements and lake beautification efforts. Notably, INR 99.89 crore has been designated for stormwater drainage works in the Karchaliya Para area of Bhavnagar, addressing critical infrastructure needs to manage heavy rainfall and prevent flooding. The Chief Minister has also approved INR 15.29 crore for urban road construction under the Mukhyamantri Shaheri Sadak Yojana, with various municipalities receiving targeted funding for specific projects. This includes improvements in Bardoli, Valsad, Bilimora, and Rajkot, among others, to enhance connectivity and accessibility within these urban areas.
In Vadodara, a substantial investment of INR 104 crore has been approved for various development works. These projects aim to enhance the city's unique identity and include modernization efforts for historic buildings, construction of new foot overbridges, and the establishment of community facilities such as yoga centers and libraries.
