Nagpur has inaugurated Asia's first four-tier flyover, featuring a Metro line, vehicular flyover, railway line, and road stacked in layers near Gaddigodam Gurudwara on the National Highway. Nagpur has achieved a historic milestone in infrastructure with the opening of the continent's first four-tier flyover, an impressive engineering feat located near Gaddigodam Gurudwara on the National Highway. This unique double-decker flyover, a joint construction effort between MahaMetro and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), features four distinct transit levels: a Metro line on top, followed by a vehicular flyover, a railway line beneath it, and a road at the base. The Kamptee Road flyover spans a length of 5.6 kilometres, connecting LIC Square to Automotive Square, and was constructed at a cost of INR 573 crore. This new structure surpasses Nagpur's previously longest double-decker flyover, the Wardha Road flyover, which extended 3.14 kilometres, and sets a new benchmark for urban infrastructure with its unprecedented four-tier design. Construction for this ambitious project began in 2019 and encountered significant challenges, including land acquisition issues in the highly congested Sadar area. Despite these obstacles, the flyover was successfully completed, marking a major advancement in Nagpur's urban transit and showcasing a remarkable achievement in design and execution.
The newly inaugurated flyover is expected to greatly enhance travel efficiency in Nagpur. Commuters will now be able to cover the 20-kilometre stretch between Kamptee and Nagpur Airport in just 20 minutes, significantly reducing travel time. This reduction is anticipated to benefit not only daily commuters but also improve transit for goods and services, facilitating smoother logistics across the city. In addition to the Kamptee Road flyover, NHAI has been investing heavily in Nagpur's infrastructure, with around INR 1,300 to INR 1,400 crore allocated towards the city's major flyovers, including those at Wardha Road and Pardi. These projects form part of a broader effort to enhance urban connectivity and meet the growing demands of Nagpur's expanding population.
