A drone survey was launched earlier this month to create a digital master plan for Vikarabad, one of 20 municipalities in Telangana selected for a GIS-based plan under the AMRUT 2.0 initiative, funded partly by the central government. The survey, conducted in collaboration with district and municipal officials, will guide long-term development, including roads, housing, drainage, and other infrastructure. Vikarabad is the first municipality to begin this survey, which will also be implemented in 19 other towns. The master plan aims to address the municipality's needs for the next 30 to 40 years, promoting sustainable urban development across Telangana.
Earlier this month, a drone survey was launched to design a digital master plan for the development of Vikarabad. This municipality is one of 20 in Telangana with a population exceeding 50,000 that has been selected to create a Geographical Information System (GIS)-based master plan as part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, initiated by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The project is receiving partial funding from the central government. The survey is being conducted by Vikarabad district authorities in collaboration with municipal officials from the Survey of India. Officials noted that Vikarabad is the first among the 20 selected municipalities to undertake this initiative using the latest technology.
The other municipalities involved in the project include Jangaon, Kagaznagar, Bodhan, Gadwal, Armoot, Badlopally, Bhainsa, Kodad, Korutla, Kothagudem, Mancherial, Mandamarri, Medak, Metpally, Palvancha, Sircilla, Tandur, Wanaparthy, and Zaheerabad. Using the data collected from the digital survey, a master plan will be developed to encompass the construction of roads, housing, drainage systems, water pipelines, cell towers, toilets, reservoirs, markets, and cremation/burial grounds, among other essential facilities. According to Collector Prateek Jain, who held a meeting with officials on Thursday, the master plan aims to meet the needs of Vikarabad for the next 30 to 40 years.
The commencement of a drone survey in Vikarabad marks a significant step towards developing a comprehensive digital master plan under the AMRUT 2.0 initiative. This project, partially funded by the central government and utilising the latest technology, aims to enhance urban infrastructure and meet the long-term needs of Vikarabad and 19 other selected municipalities in Telangana. The initiative promises to improve essential services and facilities, ensuring sustainable urban development for the next 30 to 40 years.
