The Vattiyoorkavu junction development project represents a significant advancement in infrastructure aimed at improving traffic flow and urban planning in the region. Recent updates indicate that the process for selecting a contractor for demolition works is well underway, with a tender expected to be finalised shortly after the submission deadline on Friday. MLA V K Prasanth confirmed that the project is progressing towards completion, stating that demolition activities will begin promptly following the conclusion of the demolition phase, which was previously delayed due to the Onam celebrations.

The tender for the demolition was issued last month, and Prasanth noted that the current valuation for the buildings in the first phase of the project is set at INR 21 lakh. However, this amount may be adjusted downward after a comprehensive valuation of all three phases is conducted. As of now, land acquisition efforts for the first and second phases are complete, with compensation for those affected issued on May 6,13, and17. Earlier this year, the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) approved the detailed project report (DPR) to undertake both phases of the development. Furthermore, the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) has been designated as the agency responsible for executing the project.

The project encompasses three distinct sections: the first reach spanning from Sasthamangalam to Mannarakonam via Maruthankuzhy; the second reach extending from Mannarakonam to Peroorkada through Mannamoola; and the third reach connecting Vattiyoorkavu to Vazhayila via Nettayam. To mitigate the impact on local traders, a shopping complex will be constructed along the route from Mannarakonam to Thoppumukku. This effort is crucial, as the project is projected to affect over570 businesses across all phases, with more than200 requiring rehabilitation. To accommodate this need, three acres of land are being acquired specifically for this initiative.

The public works department (PWD) has been entrusted with overseeing the comprehensive development of the Sasthamangalam-Vattiyoorkavu-Peroorkada roadway, which will span10.75 km and feature a width of 18.5 metres. Designed as a four-lane road complete with a0.5-meter wide median, this improvement aims not only to enhance vehicular traffic but also to promote safety and accessibility in the area.

In conclusion, the Vattiyoorkavu junction project is poised to deliver substantial infrastructure improvements while demonstrating a commitment to supporting local businesses that will be impacted by the renovations. By balancing urban development with the needs of the community, this initiative highlights the importance of sustainable growth in urban planning, ultimately benefiting both the local economy and residents alike.
