The Maharashtra government has provided INR 4,897.19 crore for metro and road projects in the Kalyan -Badlapur corridor through the recent MMRDA budget. The allocation focuses on expanding Metro Lines 5, 5A, 12 and 14, along with major road works including the Kalyan Ring Road and Airoli-Katai Freeway Phase 3. The move aims to ease pressure on the heavily crowded suburban railway network connecting Badlapur, Ambernath, Kalyan, Dombivli and Thane with Mumbai, while improving overall connectivity in the fast-growing eastern belt of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.Read more

The Centre has allowed resident welfare associations (RWAs), developers and private entities to propose and implement civic infrastructure projects under the INR 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund. The scheme shifts part of the responsibility from financially stressed urban local bodies to citizen groups and private stakeholders. The Centre will provide around INR 20,000 crore annually for five years, with states matching the contribution and the remaining funds raised through loans, bonds and private investment. The new suburban railway station at Kilambakkam and the 275-metre elevated skywalk connecting it to the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) are expected to open in March. Authorities have completed most structural work and are now addressing minor corrections on a segment crossing GST Road. The final link to the railway's island platform is being coordinated with Indian Railways and CUMTA. Noida International Airport has partnered with Mann Fleet Partners Limited to manage and operate ground transportation services as it moves closer to becoming operational. The agreement covers rental car services, premium kerbside pick-up and drop-off facilities, and bus shuttle operations within the airport and to key nearby locations such as Pari Chowk, Botanical Garden and Greater Noida West. Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has launched and laid the foundation for projects worth around INR 1,500 crore at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Tamil Nadu. The initiatives focus on upgrading port infrastructure, deploying clean energy systems, adopting advanced digital technologies and strengthening security. Inaugurated projects include road connectivity works, a maritime heritage museum, a digital twin platform for AI-driven operations, and an anti-drone security system. Foundation stones were laid for renewable energy and green fuel projects, rail infrastructure, shipbuilding equipment manufacturing and the government's green tug initiative. The Centre has approved INR 97 crore for upgrading Sairang railway station in Mizoram into a world-class facility. The decision was shared in the state assembly by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The project follows the operationalisation of the Bairabi Sairang railway line, which connected Mizoram's capital region to the national rail network for the first time. The upgrade will include structural expansion, new passenger amenities, and beautification works. The Union government has introduced a new quality-assessment initiative for ongoing National Highway projects, shifting the focus from network expansion to construction standards and reliability. The programme, led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, deploys Mobile Quality Control Vans (MQCVs) to carry out rapid, on-site diagnostics of highway works. Pilot projects have already been implemented across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka and Odisha. These vans operate as moving laboratories equipped with non-destructive testing tools to assess pavement and structural quality. Test findings will be shared with field offices for corrective action where deficiencies are identified. In the next phase, the ministry plans to launch a National Highway Quality Monitoring Portal to provide real-time access to test reports and GPS-based tracking of the vans, strengthening transparency and oversight.Read more

Adani Power's subsidiary Moxie Power Generation Ltd has secured a five-year contract to supply 558 MW of electricity to Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. The company emerged as the lowest bidder by quoting a tariff of INR 5.910 per unit, with supply scheduled to begin from April 1, 2026. The contract strengthens Adani Power's long-term revenue visibility, with over 95 per cent of its operating capacity now tied to medium- and long-term agreements. State-run NHPC Ltd has approved investments totalling about INR 5,700 crore for two hydroelectric projects in Jammu & Kashmir. The approvals cover the 240 MW Uri-I Stage-II project and the 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II project, including interest during construction and enabling infrastructure costs. Construction is targeted to begin by March next year, subject to signing of agreements and statutory clearances. Together, the projects will add 500 MW of renewable capacity and strengthen hydropower generation in the Union Territory.Read more
