The Centre has allowed resident welfare associations (RWAs), developers and private entities to propose and implement civic infrastructure projects under the INR 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund. The Union government has introduced a new quality-assessment initiative for ongoing National Highway projects, shifting the focus from network expansion to construction standards and reliability. The programme, led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, deploys Mobile Quality Control Vans (MQCVs) to carry out rapid, on-site diagnostics of highway works. Pilot projects have already been implemented across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka and Odisha. These vans operate as moving laboratories equipped with non-destructive testing tools to assess pavement and structural quality. Adani Power's subsidiary Moxie Power Generation Ltd has secured a five-year contract to supply 558 MW of electricity to Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. State-run NHPC Ltd has approved investments totalling about INR 5,700 crore for two hydroelectric projects in Jammu & Kashmir. The approvals cover the 240 MW Uri-I Stage-II project and the 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II project, including interest during construction and enabling infrastructure costs. Construction is targeted to begin by March next year, subject to signing of agreements and statutory clearances.
