Mumbai's Metro 6, connecting Andheri (W) to Vikhroli, is expected to begin operations around October 2026 without waiting for the Kanjurmarg car depot. MMRDA plans to use an elevated eight-lane corridor with pit lines at Vikhroli for routine rake maintenance, while major overhauls will be handled at the Mandale depot. The Kanjurmarg depot, with a cost of INR 509 crore, will include workshops, stabling lines, and an operations centre, but is delayed due to land procedures. Initially, six to eight rakes will run at intervals of six to eight minutes along the 15.31-km corridor.Read more

Maharashtra cabinet approves prime Ulwe land allotment to TTD at symbolic INR 1 rate

23 Jan 2026

The Maharashtra cabinet has approved the allotment of a 3.6-acre plot in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for the construction of a Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple at a token rate of INR 1 per square metre, with all usual premiums and infrastructure charges waived. The decision, taken on January 17 under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, formalises a proposal that was under consideration for several months and draws on precedents where land was previously allotted to TTD at nominal cost. Located in Sector 12 of Ulwe, a fast-developing node near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (Atal Setu), the concessional land grant will support a temple intended to serve devotees across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The TTD will bear all construction, management and upkeep costs, and officials highlight potential benefits for local religious tourism and economic activity.Read more

YEIDA to launch 973 residential plots near Noida International Airport this month

Noida News Desk

23 Jan 2026

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) plans to launch a major residential plot scheme this month, offering 973 residential plots near the upcoming Noida International Airport, reflecting strong infrastructure-led demand in the region. The plots, to be offered across Sectors 15C, 18 and 24A along the Yamuna Expressway corridor, will range in size from 162 sq m to 290 sq m and are expected to be priced at an average of about INR 35,000 per sq metre. Bengaluru’s pigeon-hole 2 BHK trend sparks debate on city’s housing model

Bangalore News Desk

23 Jan 2026

Homebuyers in Bengaluru are voicing concerns over the proliferation of increasingly compact pigeon-hole 2 BHK apartments units that offer generous common amenities but unusually tight internal living spaces as rising land and construction costs push developers to shrink carpet areas to preserve price points. This trend has ignited widespread debate on social media and among property seekers, with many questioning whether Bengaluru is beginning to mirror Mumbai-style housing dynamics, where small, high-priced flats have long been the norm. Data from real estate platforms shows average apartment sizes in the city dropped nearly 8 % year-on-year in 2025, as developers reconfigure layouts to manage affordability pressures. Buyers on forums argue that while Bengaluru's land scarcity isn't as severe as Mumbai's, pricing psychology and market expectations are increasingly driving design choices that prioritise saleability over livability. The discussion reflects broader concerns about housing affordability and quality in one of India's fastest-growing real estate markets.Read more

RWAs seek government takeover of unfinished internal roads near Dwarka Expressway

23 Jan 2026

Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Gurugram have urged the government to take responsibility for constructing stalled 24-metre internal sector roads in newly developed sectors adjoining the Dwarka Expressway, citing long-standing gaps in land acquisition that have left key link roads incomplete and homes dependent on narrow village routes for access. At a press conference under the Dwarka Expressway Gurgaon Development Association (DXP GDA) banner, residents highlighted bottlenecks in Sectors 112, 99A and 109, where stretches of planned arterial roads remain unfinished because small parcels of land have not been acquired. RWAs argue these missing internal links undermine connectivity, affect daily commuting, and reduce safety for thousands of residents. Government planning officials clarified that internal roads fall under developers obligations, but said the issue could be examined at the policy level.Read more
