The Kerala government has approved a negotiated land purchase approach to acquire 358 acres in Ayyampuzha for the much-delayed Global City project, part of the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (KBIC). Implemented by state agency Kinfra, this move aims to bypass delays tied to traditional acquisition methods. Of the total land, 215 acres will be dedicated to industrial use. The project, crucial for regional economic integration, had earlier faced setbacks due to Union government concerns over non-industrial components. In contrast, KBIC's Palakkad-based Industrial Manufacturing Cluster has already secured approvals. The new approach may also ensure faster delivery and better compensation for landowners.Read more

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved construction of two new arms to connect the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR) flyover directly to the Sion-Panvel Highway. Estimated at INR 1,051 crore, the project aims to ease traffic congestion at the busy Maharashtra Nagar T-junction. Currently, the GMLR flyover lacks a direct link to the highway, forcing vehicles through bottlenecks. The new flyover arms-measuring 1.47 km and 1.93 km-will bypass this signal, offering seamless access. The extensions, standing 8.5 metres high and 620 metres long, will begin construction soon following land acquisition and approvals from the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Mangroves Department. The alignment also considers proximity to metro lines and nearby airports. An earlier plan for a third arm via the Harbour line remains stalled due to pending clearances from Central Railway.Read more

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a tender to set up 2,000 MW of solar power with co-located energy storage systems (ESS), marking a big step in boosting India's renewable power reliability. Developers will be chosen via tariff-based bidding, and must link projects to the Inter-State Transmission System. Each 1 MW solar unit needs at least 0.5 MW/2 MWh of ESS, charged solely by solar. Projects may span multiple sites but must include co-located storage. This aligns with India's growing push for hybrid energy systems to meet round-the-clock power demand, aiming for 73.93 GW of storage by 2032.Read more
