The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its monitoring and safety measures to ensure the supply of clean and safe drinking water across the city, following recent concerns arising from a water contamination incident in Indore. Leveraging its own Morbe Dam project, Navi Mumbai continues to be recognised as a water-secure city, with regular testing and quality checks already in place. However, in view of potential risks arising from the proximity of water and sewage pipelines, NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has directed officials to adopt additional precautionary measures. Wipro Limited has strengthened its presence in Navi Mumbai by leasing approximately 1.45 lakh sq ft of Grade A office space at Mindspace SEZ, Airoli East, on a five year lease. The agreement, registered in late December 2025, includes a lock in period of 36 months, 97 car parks, and an 84 day rent free period before rent starts in April. The monthly rent begins at around INR 97.25 lakh with annual 5% escalations. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recently directed the shutdown of 19 construction sites after air quality levels exceeded 200 in multiple localities, marking poor pollution conditions. Alongside these closures, notices were issued to 42 other sites for failing to meet environmental safety standards. Enforcement teams, including flying squads of assistant commissioners and engineers, are actively monitoring compliance with a 27-point air pollution control plan. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation carried out an intensive road-cleaning drive on the busy Sion-Panvel Highway as part of its ongoing efforts to improve air quality and reduce road dust. The campaign focused on deep cleaning of carriageways and footpaths using mechanised brushing, removal of accumulated soil and washing of roads with treated water through jetting spray systems. Alongside the highway stretch from Vashi to Belapur, several major internal roads across the city were also covered. City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has achieved its first-ever tunnel breakthrough in the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme at Shaft 4 in Wahal village, Navi Mumbai. Executed by Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, 5.52 km of the 8.7 km treated water tunnel under Package 1 is completed, overcoming geological and operational challenges. The scheme, including 13.25 km of raw water and 15.4 km of treated water tunnels, aims to raise the city's water capacity from 150 million litres per day (MLD) to 270 MLD. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has intensified measures to improve air quality by conducting an extensive deep-cleaning drive on key arterial roads, including the Sion-Panvel Highway and the MIDC South Central Road. Acting on directions issued during a review meeting chaired by the municipal commissioner, the civic body has focused on removing accumulated dust and soil from roads and footpaths, followed by washing surfaces with treated water. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to CIDCO regarding lapses in the implementation of prescribed pollution control measures at ongoing mass housing project sites within its jurisdiction. The civic body has emphasised strict compliance with the standard operating procedures related to air and noise pollution at construction sites to maintain air quality across the city. During recent inspections, violations were observed at CIDCO-led housing project sites near Juinagar railway station in Sanpada and in Vashi. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a decisive anti-encroachment drive in the Turbhe division, targeting newly erected illegal structures on open land in Sanpada. Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, the demolition was undertaken to curb unauthorized development and protect public land. The operation resulted in the removal of around eight illegal hutments and was executed with adequate manpower, machinery and police support to ensure smooth implementation. A Municipal-Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has been constituted to scrutinise and approve proposed advertisements across television, radio, social media, digital platforms and other electronic channels. The six month consultancy will assess both technical and commercial viability to support future air traffic growth and operational needs. Bidders who meet eligibility criteria will be evaluated, and the consultant will be chosen through the Least Cost Selection method.
