Navi Mumbai recently hosted a study delegation from the Indore Municipal Corporation, one of the four cities included in the elite Super Swachh League category under the Swachh Survekshan rankings. The visit aimed to facilitate knowledge sharing between top-performing urban bodies and to understand best practices in cleanliness, governance and sustainable city management. Over the course of a two-day study tour, the Indore team reviewed several civic initiatives and expressed strong appreciation for Navi Mumbai's modern and innovative approach to urban development.

The delegation began its visit at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters, where they commended the architectural design, advanced infrastructure and consistently high standards of cleanliness. A key highlight was the Integrated Command and Control Centre, which enables real-time monitoring of solid waste collection and transportation. The system uses microchipped waste bins and GPS-enabled vehicles to track collection routes, timings and operational efficiency, ensuring accountability and seamless service delivery.

The team also visited the textile waste recycling centre operated jointly with the Textile Committee under the Ministry of Textiles. The initiative, which converts discarded textile waste into reusable and value-added products, was praised for its innovation, sustainability focus and contribution to circular economy practices.

At Wonders Park in Nerul, which features replicas of the Seven Wonders of the World, the delegation appreciated how education and recreation have been integrated to create a family-friendly public space. They also reviewed plans for the upcoming Science Park nearby and expressed interest in revisiting once the project is completed.

Healthcare initiatives were another focus area. During a visit to the municipal hospital in Nerul, the delegation lauded the establishment of a cancer registry and dialysis centre, noting the importance of proactive healthcare infrastructure in addressing rising lifestyle-related diseases.

In Koparkhairane, the team reviewed the redevelopment of a former dumping ground into a landscaped nature park and Miyawaki urban forest, describing the transformation as exemplary. They also examined the sewage treatment facility where treated wastewater undergoes advanced tertiary treatment before being reused for industrial, construction and landscaping purposes, generating additional revenue for the civic body.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Knowledge Memorial at Airoli, which the delegation described as one of the finest memorials in the country. Overall, the Indore team praised Navi Mumbai's commitment to innovation, cleanliness, sustainability and citizen welfare, while also extending an invitation for a reciprocal visit to Indore.
