Long-distance trains may move from CSMT and Dadar to free up local services

No NOC for vehicles with unpaid tolls as barrierless tolling nears rollout

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced a new rule linking unpaid tolls and user fees on national highways to vehicle no-objection certificates (NOCs) for key services such as renewal of registration and insurance, ownership transfer and fitness certification. Under the revised Central Motor Vehicles Rules, vehicles with recorded but unpaid highway user fees will face denial of NOCs, a measure aimed at reducing toll evasion ahead of the nationwide rollout of a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrierless tolling system. The provision comes barely a month before MLFF implementation on selected stretches of the National Highway network, where physical toll barriers will be removed and tolls collected electronically. Officials have said a portal will be launched to allow motorists to raise disputes and settle unpaid charges before NOC actions are taken, reflecting an effort to balance enforcement with due process.Read more

JSW Infrastructure posts 8.7% rise in Q3 FY26 profit on higher income and cargo volumes
