The Maharashtra government has clarified the circumstances under which the Wilson College Gymkhana land in Mumbai was allotted on a 30-year lease to the Jain International Organisation. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule informed the Legislative Assembly that the Mumbai City Collector had earlier received a complaint alleging violation of lease conditions by the previous occupant of the property. Following a hearing, the collector took possession of the land. The state government later approved its allocation to the organisation for gymkhana use. The North Goa District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed a construction firm to execute and register the sale deed of a flat purchased in 2004 after finding deficiency in service. The buyers had paid INR 7,34,800 and received possession, but the deed was never registered. The commission ordered the builder to complete the process within two months and pay INR 50,000 as compensation. It also allowed the buyers to get the deed executed through the commission if the firm fails to comply.Read more

The Bombay High Court has approved a comprehensive, phased strategy to significantly diminish reliance on the Kanjurmarg landfill by about 80 %, aiming to cut environmental impacts and persistent odour issues affecting nearby residents. A court-appointed monitoring committee suggested transitioning from current bioreactor-heavy landfill methods to an integrated system that includes waste-to-energy, compressed biogas, composting, and sanitary landfills. The court also asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to plan international technical exposure visits and establish a year round specialised technical cell. Meanwhile, local grievances about foul smell and complaints misuse were highlighted, and legal action against bogus complaints was directed by the bench.Read more

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (Credai) has approached the Madras High Court challenging a National Green Tribunal (NGT) direction that restricts construction within one kilometre of the Pallikaranai marsh in Chennai. The Velachery St Thomas Mount extension of Chennai's Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) moved closer to operations after the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety carried out the mandatory inspection of the corridor. The inspection included a speed trial, verification of track quality, signalling systems, electrification infrastructure and passenger amenities. The 4.5-km elevated stretch includes three stations and has been developed at an estimated cost of about INR 734 crore. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a large demolition drive in Pune, removing about 78,000 sq ft of illegal constructions across the Lohegaon and Nagar Road areas. The action targeted 18 unauthorised structures, including residential units, commercial establishments and extensions built without civic approval. Officials said notices had previously been issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 asking property owners to remove the violations. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has decided to engage private real estate brokers and create an in-house marketing cell to sell 1,748 unsold flats across five housing schemes. The units include 1, 2 and 3 BHK, mini-LIG and LIG flats priced up to INR 70 lakh, with a total estimated sale value of over INR 500 crore. Brokers will be allowed to retrofit units based on buyer demand, with costs reimbursed after registry, and will receive a 1% commission on the base price.
