The Supreme Court of India has ruled that borrowers lose their right to redeem mortgaged property once an auction notice is published under Section 13(8) of the SARFAESI Act. The Court clarified that this rule applies even to loans taken before the 2016 amendment, if the default happened after September 2016. The judgment addressed confusion created by conflicting provisions in the Act and its Rules. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has announced that land ownership rights for nearly 40,000 Bengali families in Gadchiroli will be expedited. Descendants of refugees from East Pakistan, these families have faced decades-long delays in securing legal ownership. To fast-track the process, drone-based surveys will be used for accurate mapping, and private workers will be hired to address manpower shortages in the land records department. A Lok Adalat is also being set up to resolve disputes over encroachments and record mismatches. The Enforcement Directorate has carried out raids on multiple premises linked to Imperial Group, its chairman, his wife and associates, following allegations of undisclosed foreign assets and unreported overseas investments. Investigators reportedly found links to holdings in Singapore, Dubai, Thailand and the British Virgin Islands, along with cash transactions linked to a luxury real estate project. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) carried out a demolition drive in Gomtinagar Extension, removing around 18 illegal constructions on land acquired in 2000 under the Amar Shaheed Path-Gomtinagar Extension scheme. Spanning approximately 10,500 sq meters and valued at about INR 150 crore, the encroached land had buildings on Khasra numbers 406, 407, 408, and 409 in Sector 6. Despite resistance from occupants, the operation was completed successfully. The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a new policy to regulate homestays and bed-and-breakfast (BnB) units, requiring all operators to register by June next year. Homestays are owner-occupied with up to six rooms, while BnBs are owner-absent but must have a caretaker.
