The upgraded buses feature reclining seats with greater legroom, onboard entertainment systems, USB charging points, Wi-Fi connectivity and improved sanitation facilities, among other features. KSRTC officials said the new buses are designed to offer a premium travel experience on key routes that link major urban centres, business hubs and tourist destinations. Among the enhanced features are ergonomically designed reclining seats that provide additional legroom, reducing fatigue on longer journeys. Passengers will also benefit from onboard entertainment systems that offer curated audio and video content to make travel more enjoyable.
Connectivity features have been a key focus of the upgrade. The luxury buses come equipped with Wi-Fi access and multiple USB charging points, enabling passengers to stay connected throughout their journey. These features are expected to be particularly attractive to business travellers and professionals who rely on seamless connectivity while on the move.
Sanitation and hygiene have also been prioritised. The new buses include dedicated sanitation facilities, with improved washroom systems and waste management features to maintain cleanliness throughout operations. KSRTC said these improvements reflect feedback gathered from passengers and benchmarking against global best practices in premium road travel.
Officials noted that the upgraded fleet is part of the corporation's broader strategy to revitalise its services and appeal to a wider segment of travellers. By offering a combination of comfort, technology and convenience, KSRTC aims to compete more effectively with private operators on popular intercity routes, while also fostering greater public confidence in state-run transportation services.
The luxury buses will be deployed on select routes connecting cities such as Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi and Shivamogga, as well as on services extending into neighbouring states. According to KSRTC representatives, the deployment plan has been developed based on passenger demand patterns, route performance data and strategic connectivity considerations. Enhanced accessibility and schedule reliability are intended to drive higher occupancy and extend the reach of premium bus services across the region.
Industry observers said the introduction of luxury buses by a public sector transport operator reflects a broader trend in road transportation, where state agencies are investing in quality improvements to match evolving customer expectations. With toll-free highways, improved road infrastructure and rising interest in sustainable travel options, premium bus services have become an increasingly viable alternative to private vehicles for intercity journeys.
KSRTC officials also emphasised that the new buses have been integrated with safety features such as GPS-based tracking, emergency communication systems and driver monitoring tools, aimed at enhancing passenger security and operational oversight. These systems are expected to support real-time tracking and improve incident response capabilities.
The corporation said it will monitor passenger feedback and service performance closely as the luxury fleet enters commercial operation. Plans for future enhancements, including potential expansion of routes and additional vehicles, are under consideration based on demand trends and service uptake.
By elevating the standard of its intercity bus offerings, KSRTC hopes to strengthen its role in Karnataka's integrated transport network, supporting both daily commuters and long-distance travellers with dependable, comfortable and modern travel options.
