Synopsis

Bouygues SA’s Feronord consortium has secured the OL32 Skavsta contract, a key part of Sweden’s East Link rail project located south of Stockholm. The contract includes the construction of nearly 36 kilometres of railway infrastructure and is expected to play an important role in strengthening regional rail connectivity in the country. The execution phase of the project is likely to begin in early 2028 and is estimated to be valued at around EUR 1.2 billion. The development adds to Bouygues’ growing international infrastructure portfolio and reflects continued investment in large-scale rail modernisation projects across Europe.

Bouygues SA announced in the past few days that its Feronord consortium has won the OL32 Skavsta contract, which forms part of the East Link rail project in Sweden, south of Stockholm. The project is considered one of the major railway infrastructure developments currently underway in the country.

The contract involves the construction of nearly 36 kilometres of railway line and is expected to support Sweden’s broader plans to improve rail connectivity and transport efficiency in the region. The East Link project is aimed at strengthening passenger and freight movement while reducing travel time between key locations.

According to the company, the execution phase of the contract could begin in early 2028. The project is estimated to be worth around EUR 1.2 billion during the execution stage.

The East Link rail project has been part of Sweden’s long-term infrastructure expansion plans and is intended to enhance capacity within the national rail network. The corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Stockholm and southern parts of the country while supporting future transport demand.

Bouygues has been involved in several large infrastructure and transport projects globally through its construction business. The latest contract further strengthens the company’s presence in European rail infrastructure projects, where governments have continued to increase investments in sustainable public transport systems and long-term mobility upgrades.

The Feronord consortium’s selection for the OL32 Skavsta section also highlights ongoing momentum in railway development projects across Europe, with multiple countries focusing on modernising rail systems to support economic activity, lower congestion and encourage cleaner transportation options.
