Vale do Lobo is set to host the 42nd Open Foursomes golf tournament from May 24 to May 30, as the Algarve resort continues to strengthen its positioning as a golf-led residential and leisure destination in southern Portugal. The annual event is expected to attract golfers from multiple countries and remains one of the longest-running fixtures in the Algarve’s golf calendar.
The week-long tournament will take place across Vale do Lobo’s two 18-hole golf courses and will combine competitive play with broader leisure and hospitality activities available across the resort. Organisers stated that the event continues to emphasise participation, social interaction and community engagement alongside competitive golf.
Alongside the Open Foursomes, the resort will also conduct its Junior Golf Academy programme between May 25 and May 29. The academy is designed for children and teenagers and will include ten hours of coaching spread across five days. According to the resort, the programme combines technical instruction with confidence-building and exposure to competitive golf environments.
Vale do Lobo stated that several younger participants from previous academy programmes have gone on to participate in golf activities alongside family members at the resort, reflecting a broader focus on encouraging intergenerational engagement with the sport.
The resort offers a range of golf-related infrastructure, including practice facilities, coaching services, an on-site golf retail store and clubhouse amenities. The clubhouse also houses the SMASH restaurant and SMASH Sports Bar, which cater to resort residents, golfers and visitors during tournament periods.
Hernâni Estêvão stated that the resort views golf as both a sporting and community-driven activity, adding that the Open Foursomes has become one of the most anticipated annual events within the Vale do Lobo community due to its social and participatory nature.
The tournament and academy programmes also support the resort’s broader residential positioning centred around golf-linked living. Vale do Lobo currently offers residential inventory through The Residences Vale do Lobo, a collection of apartments, townhouses and linked villas located near the Royal Golf Course.
The Royal Golf Course is among Portugal’s established golf destinations and is known for several signature holes, including the island-style green on the ninth hole and the cliff-edge carry on the sixteenth. The residences are being marketed as holiday homes, permanent residences and investment properties targeting international buyers seeking golf-oriented resort living.
The development is operated by Kronos Homes, which owns and manages Vale do Lobo. The company stated that the residential offering has attracted interest from overseas buyers looking for integrated leisure communities combining golf infrastructure, hospitality services and long-term lifestyle amenities.
