The Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications and Flipkart India Private Limited have entered into an agreement aimed at strengthening last-mile parcel delivery services across the country, according to an official statement issued in New Delhi on Friday.

The partnership is intended to combine India Post’s extensive nationwide delivery network with Flipkart’s established e-commerce logistics framework to enhance the efficiency, reliability and reach of parcel deliveries. The collaboration is designed to support the growing demand for e-commerce logistics solutions across urban, semi-urban and rural markets, including remote and underserved regions.

Under the agreement, the Department of Posts will provide last-mile delivery services for Flipkart shipments across India. The arrangement is expected to improve operational coordination between the two entities and facilitate faster movement of parcels within the logistics chain. The initiative also focuses on integrating technology systems to ensure smoother handling and tracking of shipments.

The services covered under the agreement will include delivery of both prepaid and cash-on-delivery parcels. In addition, the framework will incorporate OTP-based delivery authentication to enhance security and ensure verification at the point of delivery. Real-time shipment tracking will also be enabled to provide improved visibility and transparency for customers and logistics partners.

According to the statement, the collaboration aims to strengthen the overall logistics infrastructure supporting India’s rapidly expanding e-commerce sector. By utilising India Post’s reach in remote and geographically dispersed areas, Flipkart is expected to expand its delivery footprint while improving last-mile efficiency in regions where private logistics networks may have limited penetration.

The agreement also emphasises improved operational coordination between the two organisations, with a focus on faster deliveries and streamlined logistics processes. The integration of technology systems is expected to support more efficient parcel movement and reduce delays in delivery cycles.

India Post’s nationwide network, which spans urban centres as well as remote rural locations, is expected to play a key role in enabling wider access to e-commerce services. Flipkart, which operates as one of India’s leading online retail platforms, will leverage this network to enhance service coverage and improve customer experience across diverse geographies.

The partnership reflects a broader trend of collaboration between public sector logistics infrastructure and private e-commerce platforms to address growing delivery demands in India’s expanding digital retail market.
