Synopsis

Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board has expanded the Chamarajanagar industrial area with the acquisition of 838 acres of land to strengthen industrial infrastructure in the region. The expansion will support development of manufacturing units, logistics facilities and allied infrastructure under Karnataka’s industrial development framework. The move is aimed at improving land availability for industry and promoting decentralised industrial growth beyond established hubs such as Bengaluru. Officials said the additional land will enable structured planning, larger industrial clusters and long-term regional economic development in Chamarajanagar district.

Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board has expanded the Chamarajanagar industrial area in southern Karnataka with the acquisition of 838 acres of land, marking a significant addition to the state’s industrial land bank aimed at supporting manufacturing-led growth.

The acquisition has been undertaken to facilitate the planned development of industrial infrastructure, including manufacturing units, logistics hubs and allied support facilities. According to officials, the newly acquired land will be integrated into the existing industrial area framework to enable structured planning and phased development of industrial infrastructure in the region.

The Chamarajanagar district, which has comparatively lower industrial concentration than Karnataka’s established industrial corridors, is expected to benefit from the expansion. The KIADB stated that the additional land will help address growing demand for industrial plots and enable the development of larger contiguous land parcels suitable for industrial clusters.

Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board is responsible for acquiring land and developing industrial estates across Karnataka, including provision of core infrastructure such as roads, water supply, drainage systems and power distribution networks. The latest expansion aligns with its mandate to create industrially serviced land to attract private investment and support economic development across districts.

Officials indicated that the expansion is part of Karnataka’s broader industrial policy framework, which focuses on decentralising industrial development and reducing dependence on established urban industrial hubs such as Bengaluru. The approach aims to distribute industrial investment more evenly across the state by improving infrastructure readiness in emerging districts like Chamarajanagar.

The acquisition of 838 acres is expected to facilitate the establishment of new industrial units across sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing and logistics. The availability of large-scale land parcels is also likely to support the creation of integrated industrial clusters with shared infrastructure and utilities.

The KIADB has been actively involved in expanding industrial infrastructure across Karnataka through land acquisition and development of industrial areas tailored to investor requirements. These developments typically include pre-planned infrastructure layouts intended to reduce project setup time for industries and improve ease of establishing operations.

Chamarajanagar’s industrial expansion is expected to contribute to regional economic activity by generating employment opportunities in construction, manufacturing and ancillary services linked to industrial operations. The development is also likely to stimulate demand for supporting infrastructure, including transportation and warehousing facilities.

The expansion reflects the state’s continued focus on infrastructure-led industrial growth, with emphasis on improving land availability, connectivity and long-term industrial planning in emerging regions.
