Uber is set to establish its first data centre in India in partnership with Adani Group, marking a significant step in the company’s expanding technology and infrastructure presence in the country. The facility, expected to become operational later this year, will support the testing and deployment of Uber’s technology solutions from India for global operations. The announcement was made by Uber Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi following a meeting with Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad. While financial details and investment size were not disclosed, the development reflects growing interest among global technology firms in strengthening local digital infrastructure and data processing capabilities within India’s rapidly expanding innovation and technology ecosystem.
Uber announced earlier this week that it will establish its first data centre in India through a partnership with Adani Group, as the global ride-hailing company expands its technology infrastructure and operational capabilities in the country.
The proposed facility is expected to become operational later this year and will support Uber’s technology testing and deployment activities. The company stated that the investment forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen India’s role within its global technology and innovation network.
Uber Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi disclosed the development through a post on social media platform X following a meeting with Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad. In the post, Khosrowshahi said the partnership would build on Uber’s existing association with the Adani Group and support the company’s technology expansion plans in India.
He stated that India was increasingly emerging as a key innovation hub for Uber and added that the company was setting up its first data centre in the country with the Adani Group to test and deploy technology solutions. He further indicated that the facility would help the company scale operations globally through capabilities developed in India.
The companies have not disclosed the size of the investment, project timelines beyond the expected operational launch later this year, or the specific location of the proposed facility. Details regarding the data centre’s capacity, infrastructure specifications and land requirements also remain undisclosed.
The development comes amid increasing investments by global technology and digital platform companies in India’s data infrastructure ecosystem, driven by rising digital consumption, cloud adoption, artificial intelligence applications and enterprise technology demand. India has continued to attract large-scale investments in data centres and digital infrastructure, supported by expanding internet penetration, growth in enterprise digitisation and increasing localisation of data storage requirements.
For the Adani Group, the partnership further expands its presence in the digital and infrastructure segment, where the conglomerate has been building capabilities across data centres, energy infrastructure and industrial developments. The group has previously outlined plans to strengthen its presence in technology-linked infrastructure sectors alongside its core businesses.
Uber has steadily expanded its technology footprint in India over the years through engineering, product development and support operations. The proposed data centre is expected to support the company’s efforts to scale technology deployment while leveraging India’s growing role in global digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystems.
