Synopsis

The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) conducted a draw of lots for 179 flats under its Atal Apartment housing scheme, attracting strong participation from applicants. The draw covered 43 high-income group (HIG) and 136 middle-income group (MIG) units, with over 1,500 applications received. Held during the Baisakhi period, the event saw public participation and was conducted in the presence of state officials. The project, located at Karnail Singh Nagar on Pakhowal Road, is currently under construction and is expected to be completed later this year. The initiative reflects continued demand for mid-income housing in Ludhiana amid limited public sector residential supply.

The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) conducted a draw of lots for 179 flats under its Atal Apartment housing scheme in the past week, with the allocation process held during the Baisakhi period to finalise allotments for applicants across income categories in Ludhiana.

The draw included 43 flats under the high-income group (HIG) category and 136 flats under the middle-income group (MIG) category. The event was held at Nehru Sidhant Kendra and witnessed participation from a large number of applicants, reflecting strong demand for the housing scheme. Senior state officials and representatives of the Trust were present during the draw process, which was conducted through a public selection mechanism.

The scheme received significant interest, with over 1,500 applications submitted for the available units. Of these, around 571 applications were received for HIG flats and 963 for MIG flats, indicating a substantial gap between supply and demand in the mid-income housing segment.

The Atal Apartment project is located in Karnail Singh Nagar on Pakhowal Road and forms part of LIT's ongoing residential development efforts. Construction at the site is currently underway, with officials indicating that work has progressed substantially. The Trust conveyed that possession of the allotted flats is expected to be handed over by the end of the year, subject to completion timelines.

The project is among the few active housing schemes being executed by LIT, which has seen limited new project launches in recent years. The current scheme has therefore attracted heightened interest from prospective homebuyers seeking comparatively affordable housing options within the city.

Officials indicated that the draw process was conducted transparently, with applicants invited to witness the proceedings. The allocation was carried out through a manual draw system, ensuring public visibility and participation in the selection process.

In addition to the Atal Apartment scheme, the Trust has indicated plans to introduce new residential projects targeting lower-income segments, including one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. These proposals are expected to be taken up following the completion of the current project.

The strong response to the draw highlights sustained demand for structured housing schemes in Ludhiana, particularly in segments where supply from public authorities remains limited. It also reflects the role of government-backed housing projects in addressing affordability concerns in urban markets.

The development underscores ongoing demand-supply imbalances in the residential sector, with public housing initiatives continuing to attract interest due to pricing, location and perceived reliability, even as private sector developments dominate overall market supply.
