India has opened a major 600 km expressway in Uttar Pradesh, developed with an investment of around USD 3.82 billion (INR 362.30 billion). The project connects 12 districts and is expected to improve travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj significantly. Built by Adani Enterprises and IRB Infrastructure Developers, the six-lane greenfield corridor is being positioned as a key route for future industrial activity. The development comes as the government continues to increase infrastructure spending, with a strong focus on connectivity, economic growth, and regional development after the pandemic period.
India’s Prime Minister has inaugurated a large-scale expressway project in Uttar Pradesh, connecting 12 districts across nearly 600 km and marking one of the most extensive road infrastructure developments in the state. Advertisement
The project has been constructed at a total cost of about USD 3.82 billion (INR 362.30 billion) by Adani Enterprises and IRB Infrastructure Developers. It is a six-lane greenfield corridor and is now the longest expressway in the northern state.
The new route is designed to reduce travel time between Meerut in the eastern part of the state and Prayagraj in the western region, covering a distance of around 594 km. Authorities have indicated that the corridor is expected to ease long-distance road movement and improve connectivity across multiple districts.
The expressway has been named after the Ganga river, which flows through Uttar Pradesh, and is being viewed as a key infrastructure asset that could support future industrial corridor development in the region. Officials have highlighted that such projects are intended to improve logistics efficiency and encourage economic activity in surrounding areas.
The development comes at a time when the government has increased its focus on infrastructure expansion following the COVID-19 period. Public spending on infrastructure has seen a significant rise, including a record allocation of INR 12.2 trillion in the latest budget cycle.
In recent years, several similar highway and expressway projects have been undertaken to connect major cities and improve regional access. These initiatives are part of a broader plan aimed at strengthening agricultural supply chains, supporting industrial development, and improving access to tourism hubs across different states.
