A joint venture led by Ceigall India has secured a contract worth approximately INR 918 crore for a key underground package of Jaipur Metro Phase II. Awarded in the past week, the project involves construction of tunnels and underground stations along the proposed corridor, forming part of the city’s metro expansion plan. The development is aimed at improving urban mobility and decongesting road networks in Jaipur. The contract win reflects continued investment in mass transit infrastructure, with execution expected to follow defined timelines under the metro authority’s expansion programme.
A joint venture led by Ceigall India has been awarded a contract valued at approximately INR 918 crore for a major underground works package under Jaipur Metro Phase II, according to project details disclosed in the past week.
The contract pertains to the construction of underground sections of the metro corridor, including tunnelling and associated civil works, which form a critical component of the planned expansion of Jaipur’s urban transit network. The scope also includes development of underground stations along the alignment, designed to support increased passenger movement across key parts of the city.
The project has been awarded by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation as part of its Phase II expansion plan, which aims to extend metro connectivity to additional urban zones and reduce dependence on road-based transport. Officials indicated that the underground package is among the more technically complex components of the project, requiring specialised construction methods and equipment.
According to project specifications, the works will involve the use of tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for excavation, along with structural construction of stations and related infrastructure. The contract is expected to be executed within a defined timeline, with phased milestones linked to tunnelling progress and station completion.
The expansion of Jaipur Metro is part of a broader push to strengthen public transport systems in tier-II cities, where rising population and vehicular density have increased pressure on existing road networks. Authorities have been prioritising metro rail projects to improve connectivity, reduce travel time and support sustainable urban mobility.
Industry observers noted that the award highlights continued participation of private contractors in large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in urban transit, where specialised engineering capabilities are required. The involvement of joint ventures enables sharing of technical expertise and financial capacity in executing complex assignments.
The Phase II development is expected to complement the existing metro corridor, improving network integration and accessibility across the city. Once completed, the expanded system is anticipated to handle higher passenger volumes and provide an alternative to congested road corridors.
Officials indicated that the project forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise Jaipur’s transport infrastructure, with metro expansion aligned to long-term urban planning objectives. The contract award marks a key step in advancing construction activity under the next phase of the metro project, with work expected to commence following necessary preparatory arrangements.
