Nitin Gadkari reviewed the status of 26 national highway projects spanning 288 km in Goa in the past week, focusing on construction quality and maintenance standards. The assessment was carried out during a review meeting, incorporating feedback received through media reports and social media inputs.
During the meeting, the minister highlighted the need to expedite ongoing works at the ground level while ensuring strict adherence to quality benchmarks. He directed officials to implement rigorous monitoring mechanisms and adopt improved construction methodologies aimed at enhancing the durability and lifespan of highway infrastructure.
The review also emphasised the importance of delivering a smoother and safer travel experience for road users. Gadkari indicated that consistent quality checks and timely execution would be critical in maintaining operational efficiency across national highway networks.
In view of the approaching monsoon season, the minister instructed officials to undertake preparatory measures to mitigate potential disruptions. These include clearance of drainage systems, stabilisation of slopes along vulnerable stretches, and establishing rapid response mechanisms to address weather-related challenges.
The directions were issued to ensure that highway infrastructure remains resilient during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in regions such as Goa where terrain and climatic conditions can impact road performance.
The review reflects ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to monitor project execution and maintenance across key corridors, with a focus on improving infrastructure quality and ensuring commuter safety through proactive planning and oversight.
