The MATECIA Exhibition (Materials & Products for Construction, Interiors & Architecture), held in conjunction with the Surfaces Reporter Architecture Event, concluded a successful three-day edition in Kolkata, marking a significant industry gathering for East and Northeast India's architecture and building materials ecosystem.
The exhibition was held at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan from 30 January to 1 February 2026 and brought together architects, interior designers, developers, manufacturers, dealers and channel partners from across the region. Organisers said the event facilitated meaningful engagement between the architectural fraternity and the building materials industry, with consistent footfall recorded throughout all three days.
Spread across more than 150,000 sq. ft., the exhibition featured over 100 interior, surface and construction material brands. Visitor participation was estimated at between 14,000 and 16,000, with attendees travelling from over 100 towns and cities across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and several northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Participants included architecture and design firms, interior designers and developers associated with projects across residential, commercial, hospitality and institutional segments. According to the organisers, sustained engagement levels underlined the growing scale of design-led development and demand for organised building material platforms in the region.
A key highlight of the event was Surfaces Reporter Salutes Architecture & Design Honours, held during the exhibition, which recognised around 100 architects and interior designers from East and Northeast India for their contributions across multiple design categories. Industry leaders noted that the awards helped spotlight regional talent and emerging practices that are shaping urban and built environments beyond traditional metropolitan markets.
The exhibition also featured India Interior Retailing (IIR), enabling interaction between interior retail stakeholders and industry leaders, along with the Surfaces Reporter Showcase, which encouraged direct dialogue between architects and product manufacturers.
Organisers said the response reflected a broader transformation underway across cities in East and Northeast India, driven by rising design aspirations, infrastructure investment and demand for higher-quality materials. With strong participation and consistent engagement, the Kolkata edition concluded by reinforcing the city's position as a key industry platform for the region's architecture and construction materials sectors.
