Hyderabad's disaster response and asset protection authority has stepped up action against unauthorised construction and land encroachment across the city. Acting on public complaints and official records, the agency reclaimed park land that had been illegally occupied in Meerpet and sealed two multi-storey buildings in Manikonda that were being built on land reserved for public utilities. The action followed site inspections, verification of approved layouts, and confirmation of forged permissions. Officials have secured the reclaimed land to prevent further misuse and said similar checks will continue in other areas.
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has taken enforcement action to recover public land and stop illegal construction in different parts of the city. The authority reclaimed about 2,100 square yards of land in Nandi Hills Colony, Meerpet, which was originally earmarked as a park. Over time, the land had been encroached upon and divided into plots, with residents raising concerns through the agency's grievance platform. After on-ground inspections and checks of revenue and layout records, officials confirmed the encroachment and cleared the area.
In another operation, HYDRAA sealed two under-construction five-storey buildings in Venkateshwara Colony, Manikonda. The buildings had come up on plots reserved for public utilities in an HMDA-approved layout. Authorities found that the construction was being carried out using forged layout regularisation scheme approvals. Despite earlier attempts by local bodies to cancel the permissions, work continued until further scrutiny led to sealing of the structures. The sites have now been fenced, and construction activity has been stopped.
Officials said these actions were based on detailed verification of documents and physical inspections, following complaints from local residents. The authority has been focusing on protecting land meant for parks, roads, and civic amenities, which has faced repeated encroachment in fast-growing areas of Hyderabad. Similar actions have been carried out in the past where public land was found to be misused for private construction.
