Synopsis

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has asked property owners in the city to verify their property tax assessment details and submit objections, if any, by March 10. The civic body has opened property registers for public inspection at its six divisional offices. Around 5.90 lakh properties are currently on record. NMC has clarified that objections will be accepted only after all pending property tax dues are cleared. The exercise follows earlier surveys that identified unauthorised additional construction, which led to revised tax assessments.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation has announced March 10 as the deadline for property owners to raise objections related to their property tax assessments. Property holders have been asked to verify details such as ownership information, property area, usage classification and tax calculations recorded in the civic body's property registers.

These registers have been made available for inspection at all six divisional offices of the corporation. According to officials, the city has around 5.90 lakh properties registered under the property tax system. If no objections are submitted within the stipulated time, the entries recorded in the registers will be treated as final and binding for future tax recovery.

The civic body has also stated that property owners must clear all outstanding tax dues before filing any objection. This condition has been put in place to ensure that only compliant taxpayers seek corrections in assessment records. A public notice has been issued urging citizens to carefully check their property details and approach the relevant divisional office if discrepancies are found.

The current verification process is linked to a large-scale property survey conducted by the corporation in the past, during which several residential and commercial properties were found to have carried out additional construction without formal approval. Based on these findings, the civic body revised property areas and imposed additional tax liabilities on such constructions.

For the ongoing financial year, NMC has set a property tax collection target of INR 275 crore. Collections had crossed INR 215 crore at the time of the announcement, indicating a steady push by the administration to strengthen municipal revenues through improved assessment accuracy and compliance.
