Synopsis

Delhi authorities have put in place a set of access measures to make it easier for spectators to reach the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path. Metro announcements will guide ticket holders to the most suitable stations based on their seating enclosures, which have been named after rivers for easier identification. A QR-code based parking system covering 22 parking lots will help vehicle pass holders reach nearby parking areas. The arrangements are aimed at reducing congestion and improving pedestrian movement for nearly 77,000 spectators.

Delhi's administration has introduced several coordinated steps to improve access for spectators attending the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path. The focus is on reducing confusion, managing crowds more effectively, and ensuring smoother movement for both metro users and those arriving by private vehicles.

As part of the arrangements, metro stations on routes serving the parade venue will make specific announcements to guide spectators. Seating enclosures along Kartavya Path have been renamed after rivers to help visitors identify their locations more easily. Ticket holders for enclosures located on the southern side of the parade route, including Beas, Brahmaputra, Chambal, Chenab, Gandak, Ganga, Ghagra, Godavari, Sindhu and Jhelum, are being directed to exit at Udyog Bhawan Metro Station. Those with seats in northern enclosures such as Kaveri, Kosi, Krishna, Mahanadi, Narmada, Pennar, Periyar, Ravi, Son, Satluj, Teesta, Vaigai and Yamuna are advised to alight at Central Secretariat Metro Station.

Pedestrian pathways from these stations have been aligned with the river-named enclosures to help spectators reach their seats with fewer crossings and less crowding. Officials have said this alignment is intended to shorten walking distances and distribute footfall more evenly along the parade route.

For spectators arriving by car, a QR-code based parking system has been introduced. Parking passes carry QR codes that can be scanned to provide directions to the nearest of 22 designated parking lots around the venue. The system is designed to guide around 8,000 vehicles to appropriate parking areas and reduce traffic bottlenecks near Kartavya Path.

Officials noted that around 77,000 spectator passes are usually issued for the Republic Day parade each year, with a limited number earmarked for vehicle entry. Spectators have been encouraged to use metro services wherever possible and follow announcements, signage, and instructions on their passes to ensure smooth access.
