IHCL has acquired a 51 per cent stake in Brij Hospitality for INR 193 crore, taking ownership of the boutique leisure brand Brij. The acquisition adds 11 operational hotels and 11 in development, totaling around 295-300 keys. Brij Hotels operates 22 properties and is known for personalized, culturally immersive experiences in offbeat locations such as Jaipur, Varanasi, Ranthambore, the northeast, and Goa. IHCL’s portfolio now stands at 610 hotels with 253 in the pipeline. Brij’s co-founders also plan international expansion, with properties in Nepal and potential opportunities in Sri Lanka.
Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has acquired a 51 per cent stake in Brij Hospitality, the parent company of the boutique experiential leisure brand 'Brij', for INR 193 crore. Through this acquisition, IHCL gains ownership of the Brij brand and aims, along with the founding promoters, to develop the boutique leisure segment across India.
IHCL Managing Director and CEO Puneet Chhatwal said the company is pleased to strengthen its partnership with the Clarks Group by moving from a marketing and distribution alliance to a majority stake in Brij Hotels. He noted that the acquisition adds 11 operational hotels and 11 more in the pipeline, contributing approximately 295-300 keys to IHCL’s portfolio.
Brij Hotels currently operates 22 hotels, with 11 under development, offering luxurious stays that emphasize personalized service and unique experiences. Chhatwal highlighted that Brij’s presence in offbeat destinations enhances the diversity of IHCL’s portfolio in locations such as Jaipur, Varanasi, Ranthambore, the northern hills, the northeast region, and Goa.
With this move, IHCL’s overall portfolio will reach 610 hotels, with 253 additional properties under development, further strengthening its position in India’s leisure tourism sector, particularly in cultural, spiritual, and wildlife destinations.
Udit Kumar and Anant Apurv Kumar, co-founders of Brij Hospitality, said they are excited to partner with IHCL to shape the future of boutique hospitality. They noted that Brij Hotels is known for creating immersive, locally rooted experiences that reflect India’s cultural diversity. Regarding international expansion, they mentioned an upcoming property in Pokhara, Nepal, and ongoing business development in Sri Lanka, aiming for locations that offer distinctive storytelling experiences.
