Synopsis

The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated a project to construct dedicated service lanes and a toe wall along Ring Road near the Millennium bus depot and Baansera. Valued at INR 3.7 crore, the project is expected to be completed within 60 days of commencement. Before construction, a detailed pavement condition survey will be conducted using laser-based systems, GPS mapping, and video image processing. The improvements aim to separate local traffic from main lanes, enhance commuter safety, and address structural and maintenance needs on one of Delhi's busiest corridors.

The Delhi Public Works Department has begun preparations for a project to build dedicated service lanes and a protective toe wall along a key section of Ring Road near the Millennium bus depot and Baansera. The project, with an estimated cost of INR 3.7 crore, is planned to be completed within 60 days from the start of construction.

Ring Road experiences heavy daily traffic, including buses, commercial vehicles, and inter-city commuters. In the absence of service lanes, vehicles making local stops or turns often enter main traffic lanes, slowing movement and creating safety risks. To mitigate these issues, PWD will first carry out a detailed pavement condition survey using advanced technologies such as laser-based systems, GPS mapping, and video image processing tools. This data will guide the laying of bituminous concrete to strengthen and restore road surfaces where required.

Officials explained that the service lanes and toe wall are designed to improve traffic flow while addressing structural and maintenance concerns along the corridor. The project is part of a broader strategy by PWD to enhance road infrastructure across Delhi, ensuring safer and more efficient movement for daily commuters. With the survey findings informing precise construction, the initiative aims to reduce congestion and minimize the risks associated with local stops merging onto main lanes.

The work also reflects a focus on data-driven maintenance, as the survey outputs will feed into ongoing road and pavement monitoring systems. By creating dedicated spaces for local traffic, the project will help prevent bottlenecks and enhance overall safety for all road users, including buses and commercial vehicles. Officials anticipate that timely execution of this 60 day plan will significantly improve commuting conditions on this heavily used arterial road.
