Synopsis

The Palghar district administration reviewed the progress of land acquisition for multiple infrastructure projects, including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (bullet train), Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, and Virar-Dahanu rail expansion. Officials confirmed full acquisition for the bullet train with most villagers compensated and near completion for other projects, with only a small portion for Virar-Dahanu pending. Discussions also covered rehabilitation, fund disbursement, and administrative clearances. With INR 2,859.14 crore already paid and INR 328.52 crore pending, authorities aim to resolve remaining issues to keep construction timelines on track.

The Palghar district administration conducted a comprehensive review under Collector Indu Rani Jakhar to assess land acquisition for key infrastructure initiatives in the region. The meeting focused on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (bullet train) project, Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, Virar-Dahanu railway expansion, and the Borivali-Virar rail line development, along with associated road overbridge projects.

Officials confirmed that land acquisition for the bullet train has been fully completed, covering all 71 villages affected by the project. Most landowners have received compensation, marking a critical step in advancing construction. The administration noted that past delays due to resistance and procedural challenges have now been largely addressed.

In addition, the Borivali-Virar fifth and sixth line projects have achieved full land acquisition, while the Virar-Dahanu project still has a small portion of land pending, which authorities expect to finalize soon. Land acquisition for these initiatives collectively spans 169 villages, and a total of INR 2,859.14 crore has been disbursed to project affected persons, with INR 328.52 crore remaining to be paid.

The meeting included officials from land acquisition, rehabilitation, and district records departments to ensure coordinated action. Authorities emphasised timely fund utilisation, completion of administrative clearances, and proper rehabilitation of affected families. These measures aim to ensure that infrastructure projects proceed without delays and that all project affected persons receive the necessary support.

Completion of land acquisition, particularly for the bullet train, represents a significant milestone, as prior resistance and administrative challenges had slowed the project. Construction across various sections of the corridor has already started, supported by the secured land and clearances, setting the stage for faster project implementation.
