Almost half of the sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Haryana do not meet pollution control standards, as reported by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Out of the 156 STPs assessed, 73 were found to be non-compliant, with untreated wastewater being discharged into the Yamuna and Ghaggar rivers. The state plans to upgrade 25 STPs and establish infrastructure for treated sewage reuse to address the issue. However, there is a pressing need to ensure proper sewage treatment to safeguard the health and sustainability of water bodies in the region.Read more
