Ludhiana civic authorities have issued a 30-day deadline for all commercial buildings, industrial units, educational institutions, and coaching centres to obtain a fire safety No Objection Certificate (NOC) as part of a safety enforcement drive. The order follows a fire at a Basant Nagar scrap storage facility that caused explosions and damaged nearby homes, prompting an investigation. Under the Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Act and the Punjab Fire and Emergency Service Act, failure to comply can result in fines up to INR 50,000 and sealing of premises. Online applications and guidance from the local fire brigade are available to assist property owners in meeting the requirements.Read more

The Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) has invited landowners from four villages in Yelwal hobli to provide consent for a major residential project covering around 2,113 acres. Under the 50:50 development scheme, landowners will receive half of the developed land in exchange for their property. The project aims to create over 20,000 residential sites to address Mysuru's housing demand. However, villagers say they are not fully aware of the plan, and real estate experts have raised concerns about feasibility, investment costs, and the logistical challenge of obtaining thousands of signatures from over 1,500 owners.Read more

The Bihar government has moved the certification of land revenue records entirely to an online system, granting full legal validity to digitally issued copies. Physical certified copies will no longer be provided. Records that are yet to be digitised will be brought online in a phased manner. The state has also streamlined mutation, correction and genealogy certificate processes, particularly in urban areas. Fixed timelines have been set for resolving different categories of land record errors, aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and public access to land-related services.Read more

The National Housing Bank (NHB) has expressed concern over slower-than-expected disbursements under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0 (PMAY U 2.0) interest subsidy scheme. In a review with top housing finance companies (HFCs) last week, officials urged lenders to enhance participation, particularly for smaller-ticket loans. Despite the government providing details of over 1.8 million potential beneficiaries, uptake remains limited due to perceived repayment risks and operational challenges. Most disbursements continue to focus on larger loans, running counter to the programme's goal of supporting lower-income urban borrowers.Read more

Maharashtra's cooperation department is moving housing society registration to an online platform to reduce procedural delays and excessive paperwork. The initiative will cut required documents from 29 to 19, lowering the documentation burden by nearly 34%. Applications will be processed through the Aaple Sarkar portal, allowing societies to submit papers and track approvals digitally. Officials have clarified that core legal documents will continue to be mandatory. The move is expected to improve registration rates, especially in urban areas where many societies continue to operate without formal registration.Read more

The Bombay High Court reprimanded Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) officials for improperly halting redevelopment plans for two Pune housing societies, Sunglory and Nutan, in Sadashiv Peth. The bench noted that the officers misinterpreted a remark from the state Chief Minister as an official stay order. While the Sunglory society's no-objection certificate (NOC) remains valid, MHADA has been directed to decide on Nutan's pending proposal promptly. The court also disapproved political interference from a local MLA, emphasizing that such actions have no legal standing and must not delay redevelopment.Read more

Telangana's real estate sector has experienced a drop in property registrations despite a modest rise in revenue. Total registrations fell by around 50,000 in the current fiscal period, reaching approximately 12.5 lakh, compared to 13 lakh last year. Revenue, however, increased by roughly INR 600 crore, totaling around INR 11,200 crore, supported by higher property values and increased home loan use. Certain months saw improved registration activity, but overall, growth was negative. Officials note that meeting the ambitious INR 19,100 crore target for the year appears unlikely.Read more

Consumer groups in Maharashtra have raised serious concerns over recent amendments to the Maharashtra Ownership of Flats Act (MOFA), stating that the changes weaken legal protections for homebuyers. The amendments remove criminal liability for builders in cases of violations such as delayed possession, misuse of buyer funds, or non-registration of conveyance, effectively granting them legal immunity. Critics warn that excluding projects registered under RERA after May 1, 2016, reduces MOFA's relevance for many developments, leaving buyers of legacy and redevelopment projects vulnerable. Authorities are being urged to restore key provisions to safeguard public interest.Read more

At least nine people have died and over 200 have been hospitalised in Indore following a diarrhoea outbreak linked to contaminated drinking water, according to local authorities. The illness was traced to a leak in a water pipeline in the Bhagirathpur area, where tests confirmed bacterial contamination. Health officials said most patients are receiving treatment across city hospitals, while final test reports are awaited. Authorities have repaired the leakage point, deployed medical teams for door-to-door health checks, and distributed chlorine tablets to residents. Thousands have been screened so far, with several cases showing mild symptoms. The incident has raised concerns despite Indore's reputation as India's cleanest city.Read more
