Property owners within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits are facing prolonged delays in accessing khata services, with khata bifurcation suspended for years and B-khata to A-khata conversions moving slowly. The issue has intensified after approval powers shifted from BDA to GBA, pending zoning amendments. Thousands of owners, especially those with ancestral, joint or subdivided properties, are unable to sell, build or secure loans. Even vacant plots remain without khata, adding to uncertainty. While applications have moved online, most lack required layout documents. GBA plans to generate these internally, a step that could unlock over INR 5,000 crore in revenue and ease the growing backlog for affected residents.Read more

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India has called for stronger institutional frameworks and capacity building for primary auditing institutions that audit local governments. The appeal was made at the conclusion of a national workshop for Directorates of Local Fund Audit and state audit departments. The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is planning a consolidated layout approach for returnable plots under Amaravati's Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) phase two. Unlike the first phase, where plots were developed village-wise, the new plan groups plots from multiple villages into one or two central layouts. This aims to reduce infrastructure costs, provide contiguous land for major projects such as an international airport and sports complex, and accelerate plot handovers for farmers. Homebuyers association Forum For People's Collective Efforts (FPCE) has urged the government to introduce an interest subsidy on home loans for buyers of affordable and mid-income housing in the upcoming Union Budget. The body argued that the real estate market has increasingly tilted towards luxury housing, leaving middle-class and first-time buyers with limited viable options. FPCE has proposed a buyer-centric subsidy framework, under which benefits would flow directly to eligible homebuyers rather than developers, and only if EMIs are serviced on time and promoters do not default. The association has also called for clear, uniform definitions of affordable and mid-segment housing, including price caps per sq ft, and incentives to promote housing development in semi-urban areas to reduce pressure on major cities.Read more

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally seized two ultra-luxury apartments in Gurugram valued at a combined INR 73 crore as part of an expanding money-laundering investigation linked to the Gensol Group and its associated entities. The properties, located in the high-end residential complexes DLF Camellias and DLF The Magnolias, were attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on allegations that the group's promoters diverted public funds and grants for personal enrichment. One apartment, registered to a Gensol Group company, is valued at about INR 40.57 crore, while the other, held by an associated firm, is worth around INR 32.28 crore. Alongside the properties, the ED has also frozen over INR 14 crore in bank balances held across group-related accounts. The action follows multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed by law enforcement agencies, including the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation, in connection with alleged criminal conspiracies involving diverted loans and state-backed grant funds.Read more

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed authorities to act against unauthorised construction in the green belt of Sector 16, Rohini.
