The Ministry of Railways has approved a plan to create passenger-holding zones at 76 major stations across India, including five key railway terminals in Mumbai. These facilities will be developed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus. The move follows the successful trial of a similar model at New Delhi station during the festive rush, aimed at easing overcrowding, improving passenger flow and enhancing comfort. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the addition of a fifth train on the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro network, beginning operation from the start of November. The new train will reduce peak-hour intervals from about 19 minutes to 15 minutes, while the first and last train timings from both terminals R V Road and Bommasandra will stay the same. The Central Government has recently approved the allocation of 48 dedicated seaplane routes across Kerala under the regional connectivity scheme (RCS-UDAN). The routes have been assigned to operators including IndiaOne Air, MEHAIR, Pawan Hans and SpiceJet. The state government is now planning to establish floating waterdromes and related infrastructure at various water-bodies. A prior trial flight from Kochi to Mattupetty in Idukki has already been conducted. The project is expected to cut travel time between the state's four international airports and remote inland destinations.Read more

A 56-metre steel span was recently installed at the Sonapur junction in Mulund as part of the ongoing Metro-4 construction between Wadala and Kasarvadavali. The heavy-duty operation, carried out in two phases using 500-tonne cranes and multi-axle trailers, required complete traffic closure at the GMLR junction over two nights. Commuters were diverted through alternative routes including Village Road, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Road, and Subhash Nagar Road. Authorities confirmed that additional work will continue next weekend and that one lane on LBS Road will remain closed till the end of December.Read more

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched ward-level inspections across Mumbai to enforce its 28-point environmental guidelines for construction sites. The checks focus on ensuring the installation of air-quality (AQI) monitors to track dust and emissions from ongoing projects. In September, the BMC issued 314 notices including 275 show-cause notices and 39 stop-work orders' to non-compliant sites. Dedicated squads are conducting regular visits to verify adherence to pollution-control norms such as water sprinkling and debris containment. Building on earlier measures from 2023, the initiative aims to curb dust pollution, enhance accountability, and improve Mumbai's air quality, with repeat violators facing penalties or extended work suspensions.Read more

The Mumbai Metro Line 3, or Aqua Line, handled 38.63 lakh passengers in October, showing consistent growth in daily ridership since its full launch earlier this month. Covering 33.5 km from Cuffe Parade to Aarey JVLR, the corridor recorded an average weekday ridership of 1.41 lakh, with the highest single-day count reaching 1.82 lakh. Operated by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the line connects major business and transit hubs and has introduced WhatsApp and QR-based ticketing for easier travel.Read more

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) this week for field offices across Delhi-NCR, covering both completed and ongoing highway stretches under its jurisdiction. The SOP lays out several actions: mechanised road sweeping, covering construction materials during transit, continuous water-sprinkling and use of anti-smog guns at construction sites, planting vegetation along medians using the Miyawaki method, and monitoring of air-quality indices as per the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and pollution control boards. It also assigns responsibilities to field officers, contractors and concessionaires, including audits, inspections, training and complaint redressal via the Green Delhi App.Read more

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has announced plans to expand the annual passenger-handling capacity of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) from 10.5 crore to about 12.5 crore by around 2029-30. The development plan includes constructing a new Pier E at Terminal 3, adding more aircraft parking bays, and decongesting Terminal 1. DIAL's management expects the current capacity to reach its limit within the next three to four years. The older Terminal 2 will be replaced only when passenger numbers rise close to 10 crore annually, in line with expansion thresholds.Read more

The Maharashtra government has approved a revised budget of INR 3,295.7 crore for the 84.4 km Solapur-Tuljapur-Dharashiv broad-gauge railway line, with the state contributing half of the total cost.
