During a review meeting with key officials, he emphasised the need for both cluster development and the acceleration of the slum rehabilitation scheme. These initiatives aim to enhance living conditions while addressing the risk of future flooding.
To mitigate flood risks, CM Shinde highlighted the importance of increasing the river flow capacity. He instructed local authorities to take strict measures against those obstructing river pathways, including legal action against individuals or businesses that dump debris into the waterways. The Chief Minister stated, "It is our duty to protect lives and properties," and urged for immediate steps to deepen and widen the rivers to prevent future disasters.
The meeting included various officials, such as health and municipal leaders, who discussed the necessity of immediate action. CM Shinde proposed establishing automatic meteorological stations in villages to monitor rainfall and water flow. He also called for an early warning system in flood-prone areas to alert residents about potential dangers. He assured that funding would be made available to support these initiatives.
In addition to improving river management, Shinde directed the removal of silt and debris from construction sites to ensure clear waterways. He emphasised the importance of collaboration among the district administration, municipal corporations, and the Water Resource Department to achieve these goals. The Chief Minister also mentioned the implementation of effective schemes like "Gaal Mukt Dharan" (Silt-free Dam) to enhance river capacity.
Addressing the long-term impacts of flooding, Shinde announced plans for a Blue Flood Line survey aimed at the permanent rehabilitation of affected residents. He indicated that new regulations would be developed to facilitate the redevelopment of flood-damaged homes, ensuring that necessary legal adjustments are made to support these efforts.
In light of the humanitarian needs arising from the floods, CM Shinde urged officials to provide immediate assistance to victims, including clothing, bedding, and food supplies. He encouraged the use of government funds, District Planning Committee resources, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions to aid those affected. He also stressed the importance of planning to prevent health crises, as floods can lead to the spread of diseases.
Additionally, Shinde announced plans to meet with insurance companies to discuss compensation for vehicle owners who suffered losses due to the floods. This comprehensive approach aims not only to address immediate needs but also to create a more resilient infrastructure to prevent future flooding in the region.
