A recent lottery conducted by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Board (MHADA) received a massive response, highlighting the significant demand for accessible homes in the state.

The lottery, held at the Pune Zilla Parishad Hall, offered 4,850 flats across Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Tathawade, Solapur, and Sangli. Housing Minister Atul Save announced a staggering 46,532 applications received for these flats. This translates to roughly 9.6 applications for every available flat, showcasing the intense competition for affordable housing options.

Minister Save highlighted the potential of 20% inclusive housing schemes in the Pune area. These schemes require developers to set aside 20% of their project for affordable housing. By encouraging such projects, the government aims to create more housing stock, potentially allowing for more frequent lotteries in the future.

The computerized draw was conducted in stages to distribute 2,427 of the total 4,850 flats. This means there are still opportunities for those who missed out on the lottery.

The lottery distribution saw the Inclusive Housing Scheme garner the most interest, with 46,477 applications for 1,372 flats, and Yogesh Dhake emerging as the first winner. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana had 1,037 flats available, attracting just 39 applications. Meanwhile, the MHADA Housing Scheme, offering 18 flats, received 16 applications.

For those who missed out on the lottery, there's still hope! An additional 2,423 flats under the MHADA housing scheme are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants can directly contact the MHADA Pune Board for more information on these remaining options.

Encouraged by the high participation, officials announced that the next draw for flats will be declared soon. This is positive news for those who are still seeking affordable housing options.
