At GMDA's board meeting, scheduled to be held this month, the board will discuss key projects including flyover construction, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) redevelopment, water treatment plant capacity expansion, the acquisition of electric buses, and the installation of 10,000 CCTV cameras. The board will present an INR 2,887 crore budget for FY 2024'25 and seek approval for projects worth INR 3,500 crore from Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who will chair the meeting in Chandigarh. This marks the first board meeting in a year and the inaugural session chaired by Saini since his appointment as Haryana CM in April.

GMDA officials highlighted the necessity for administrative approval for key proposals, such as constructing flyovers at the intersections of sectors 45-46-51-52 and 85-86-89-90. Another significant proposal involves the INR 634 crore redevelopment of Tau Devi Lal Stadium. The plan aims to increase the stadium's seating capacity to 35,000 for cricket and 15,000 for football, with the inclusion of a swimming pool. The redevelopment of SPR from Vatika Chowk to the CPR-SPR junction on the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-8) is another critical project on the GMDA's agenda.

In the last Authority meeting, chaired by the former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, officials were directed to redesign the project to connect SPR with the Dwarka and Delhi-Mumbai expressways. Originally planned in March 2019 and approved in June 2022, the SPR redevelopment involves revamping a 14-km stretch by constructing eight flyovers, widening carriageways to six lanes, and adding service lanes for INR 845.5 crore. However, concerns about traffic volume led to revising the plan to an elevated corridor from NH-8 to Vatika Chowk, ensuring seamless connectivity from Shiv Murti in Delhi to the highway and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

A senior GMDA official stated that the revised plan for a signal-free elevated corridor aims to ease congestion and enhance connectivity to the Dwarka Expressway and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The board will seek approval for this matter. GMDA's water division has proposed projects worth INR 1,400 crore to improve the city's water supply, upgrade the drain network, and increase sewage treatment capacity. These projects include additional filtration units at Chandu Budhera and Basai water treatment plants, each expected to enhance capacity by 100 million litres a day. The detailed project report estimates the cost at INR 325 crore.

GMDA intends to replace the existing fleet of CNG buses with 200 electric buses, phasing out the CNG buses by 2029. A GMDA official mentioned that the authority expects 200 electric buses under the PM e-Sewa scheme by this financial year. Plans for the next financial year include augmenting public transport with 200 more electric buses of 12-metre length and improving supporting infrastructure like bus depots for better city bus operations.

This meeting highlights GMDA's commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure, addressing traffic congestion, improving water management, and advancing sustainable transportation solutions in Gurugram. The discussed projects reflect a strategic approach to urban development, prioritising both immediate needs and long-term growth.
