The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is planning on conducting a 3D Digital Twin Drone Survey, and will soon be appointing a consultant for the overseeing of the survey. The drone survey aims to assist in city development, building a detailed database of the city, generating revenue, supporting engineering, health, town planning, and other sectors of the city corporation.

Additionally, the GIS-based decision support system (DSS) will help the MCC enhance basic facilities, make life easier for residents, and boost the city corporation's revenue. Premanand Shetty, Chief whip of the MCC council, stated that the advantage of the GIS-based support system will aid in increasing overall transparency of the administration and also improve the city corporation's response.

Shetty outlined the strategy employed for the drone survey, saying that survey will prepare a 3D map of the central city and surrounding areas. Creating the database will help raise revenue, improve coordination between departments, and ensure better disaster management. He reported that the council has sent the proposal to the MCC finance committee for further discussion and a report. After the committee finalizes the proposal, it will be discussed in the next council meeting.

According to him, the survey will also help develop a web-based application with a 3D reality mesh model, useful for property tax collection, flood monitoring, and land use management. The proposal also includes gathering data using a mobile mapping system with Lidar and 360-degree street panoramic imaging. In 2022, the city corporation conducted a drone survey through Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), covering 16 wards.

Sudheer Shetty Kumar, Mayor of Mangaluru, said that the survey will present an in-depth view of the city corporation in 3D format. The decision to begin and implement the survey will take as soon as possible.
