The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm on June 21st, 2024. The event, held under the theme "Yoga for Self and Society," aimed to promote the benefits of yoga for both individual well-being and civic responsibility.
The highlight of the celebrations was the "Yoga Mantra" program held at the CIDCO Exhibition Center. The program saw a large turnout of citizens from Navi Mumbai participating alongside prominent figures. Dr. Kailas Shinde, Municipal Commissioner of NMMC, led the yoga session, joined by Airoli MLA Shri Ganesh Naik, Belapur MLA Shrimati Manda Tai Mhatre, former commissioner Shri Vijay Nahata, and other dignitaries. This public display of support for yoga aimed to inspire residents to embrace the practice in their daily lives.
The NMMC recognises the positive impact of yoga on both physical and mental health. To make yoga accessible to a wider audience, the corporation organizes various programs throughout the year. These programs range from convenient indoor sessions to larger outdoor events like "Yoga Mantra," ensuring there's something for everyone. Dr. Kailas Shinde, Municipal Commissioner of NMMC, said, "The NMMC is committed to promoting well-being in our city. Our yoga programs are a key part of this initiative, and their success is a testament to the positive impact yoga has on our residents."
This year's International Yoga Day celebration also incorporated a message of civic responsibility. The event included promoting the "Swachh Bharat Mission" (Clean India Mission) and its ongoing "Swachh Survey 2024" campaign. By combining these two initiatives, the NMMC highlighted the connection between a healthy lifestyle and a clean environment. Organizers emphasized that a clean city is essential for overall well-being, complementing the physical and mental benefits of yoga practice.
In his address, Dr. Kailas Shinde emphasised the importance of regular yoga practice for a peaceful and harmonious life, especially in today's fast-paced and stressful times. Shinde said, "On this International Yoga Day, everyone is encouraged to commit to regular yoga practice for a peaceful and harmonious life." The event served as a call to action for Navi Mumbai residents to not only incorporate yoga into their routines but also become active participants in keeping their city clean. The NMMC's initiative serves as a reminder that a healthy and happy life is built on a foundation of both individual well-being and a clean environment.
