A statement released from Raj Niwas earlier this month announced that the Central Government has granted an approval from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the extension of the Rithala - Narela - Kundli metro line. According to the statement, Lieutenant Governor for Delhi, VK Saxena, has undertaken the construction for the metro line on various occasions. This extension stretch will constitute a part of the Red Line of the Delhi metro.

The statement also detailed that the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor will be built for a total of INR 6,231 crore, with the Delhi segment costing approximately INR 5,685.22 crore and the Haryana segment costing around INR 545.77 crore.

The Delhi segment cost distribution is as follows: around 40% of the cost will be covered by the Central Government, around INR. 1,000 crore will be covered by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), another 20% will be from the Delhi government, and the remaining 37.5% will be funded through multiple loans. For the Haryana segment, the state government will be covering about 80% of the cost through grants, and the remaining 20% will come from grants from the Central government.

The line spans 26.5 kilometers with 21 stations, and is expected to be completed within four years. This decision will enhance the connectivity between the areas of Narela, Bawana, and Alipur to the city, generating an infrastructure boom in the region. It will also boost the growth and development of the Narela-Bawana sub-city and meet the longstanding needs of the Rohini sub-city.

The statement said that the Narela sub-city, which the DDA is transforming into an education hub with campuses for seven Delhi universities and institutions, a multi-modal logistics park along UER-II, corporate offices/IT-ITeS parks, and an AIIMS and IGTUW medical campus, will significantly benefit from the construction of this corridor. The area is already home to different educational institutes, such as NIT Delhi, National Institute of Homeopathy, Delhi Technological University, as well as Raja Harish Chandra Hospital, Anaaj Mandi, Smriti Van, and other housing projects.

This corridor will provide smooth interstate travel between Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Kundli in Haryana. The statement highlighted that the metro corridor is expected to have 126,000 daily passengers by 2028 and 380,000 daily passengers by 2055.

The main stations on the line will be in seven sectors of Rohini, villages like Barwala, Sanoth, New Sanoth, and Narela, as well as J J Colony. There will also be two stations in the Bawana industrial area and five stations in Narela, including Anaaj Mandi, Narela DDA Sports Complex, Narela Village, Depot Station, and Narela Sector-5.
