Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar of Karnataka has issued a reminder to property owners in Bengaluru regarding the ongoing 'One Time Settlement' (OTS) window for outstanding property tax payments. The scheme, closing on July 31, offers a 50% reduction in penalties and a waiver of interest payments. Despite this opportunity, over 4 lakh property owners are yet to participate, out of approximately twenty lakh properties eligible for the scheme. Shivakumar stressed the importance of tax compliance, warning of repercussions for defaulters after August 1. The digitization process of properties is underway to facilitate easier tax compliance. Additionally, Shivakumar addressed concerns about unauthorized flex banners, urging strict action and encouraging public complaints through the BBMP helpline.
Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has issued a reminder to property owners in Bengaluru, highlighting the ongoing 'One Time Settlement' (OTS) window for outstanding property tax payments. This scheme, set to close on July 31, offers a unique opportunity for individuals to clear their dues with significant concessions. Under the OTS, property owners stand to benefit from a 50% reduction in penalties and a complete waiver of interest payments, providing substantial relief amidst challenging economic conditions.
Despite the scheme's availability, over 4 lakh property owners are yet to take advantage of this opportunity, with approximately twenty lakh properties falling within the tax bracket. Urging prompt action, Shivakumar emphasized that defaulters after August 1 will face repercussions, emphasizing the importance of adhering to tax obligations.
The digitization process of these properties is currently underway, with over 8 lakh properties already digitized and the remainder expected to be completed within three months. Once digitization is finalized, property owners will receive digital records for their properties, facilitating easier tax compliance and administrative procedures.
Shivakumar also addressed concerns regarding the widespread use of unauthorized flex banners, emphasizing strict action against non-compliance. Despite the BBMP's ban on flex banners, their extensive use by various organizations, including political parties, persists. To tackle this issue, the BBMP helpline is available for lodging complaints about unauthorized flex banners, reinforcing efforts to maintain city aesthetics and regulate public advertising practices.
As Bengaluru endeavours to enhance urban governance and foster tax compliance, initiatives like the OTS scheme and digitization efforts play a pivotal role in streamlining administrative processes and promoting transparency. With effective implementation and continued public engagement, these initiatives aim to strengthen Bengaluru's infrastructure and contribute to its sustainable development.
