Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the issuance of possession certificates for 100 square yard plots to over 7,500 BPL families under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana. This initiative aims to provide housing for economically weaker sections, with registration and plot handover occurring on-site. Saini criticized the previous Congress government for not providing documentation for promised plots. The new plan includes financial aid of up to INR 1 lakh for 12,500 beneficiaries. Over the past decade, 14,939 houses were built under PMAY in Haryana, with an additional 15,356 under construction.
Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the government will issue possession certificates for 100 square yard plots to over 7,500 Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. This initiative is part of the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana, aimed at providing housing for the economically weaker sections.
The possession certificates will be distributed at various locations across Haryana. Additionally, the registration of these plots will be completed on the spot, ensuring that beneficiaries can take immediate ownership of their new properties. This step underscores the state government's commitment to achieving "housing for all" under its ambitious scheme.
Saini took the opportunity to criticize the previous Congress government for its handling of a similar initiative, the Mahatma Gandhi Gramin Basti Yojana. He claimed that although plots were promised to poor families, no formal documentation was ever provided. The current government aims to rectify this by ensuring that all promised plots come with the necessary legal documentation.
Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had previously announced in the 2024-25 budget that approximately 20,000 beneficiaries would receive plots under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana. To further support this initiative, the government will provide financial assistance of up to INR one lakh per person to help 12,500 pending beneficiaries purchase plots.
The government is also conducting surveys to identify new eligible individuals. A portal will soon be launched to allow these people to apply for housing assistance, streamlining the process and ensuring that more families benefit from the scheme.
Over the past decade, significant progress has been made under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Haryana. Saini highlighted that 14,939 houses have been constructed and provided to poor families, with an expenditure of INR 552 crore. Additionally, 15,356 houses are currently under construction, and the keys to these homes will be handed over to beneficiaries shortly.
The government is also running the B R Ambedkar Awas Navinikran Yojna for the repair of existing houses. Under this scheme, 2,138 beneficiaries have received financial assistance directly into their bank accounts. Furthermore, under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana, 29,440 houses were approved in Haryana, of which 26,318 have been constructed. Each beneficiary under this scheme has received INR 1.38 lakh, amounting to a total assistance of INR 376 crore.
The Haryana government's efforts to expand housing for BPL families mark a crucial step towards providing secure and dignified living conditions for its residents. With the new Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana and ongoing initiatives, the state is making significant strides in addressing the housing needs of its economically weaker citizens.
