Lulu Group International, a retail giant based in Abu Dhabi, is planning to set up a logistics and food-processing centre in Amritsar, Punjab. The group has collaborated with the Punjab government for this project, and construction work is set to begin soon.

The centre will be established on a 20-acre land parcel in Amritsar and will have a capacity of 2 lakh metric tons. Salim MA, the director of Lulu Group, stated that this move will make Amritsar a part of their local product sourcing, which will significantly benefit Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), local farmers, agricultural cooperatives, and farmers' producer organizations.

Lulu Group is known for its chain of shopping malls, hypermarkets, and food processing centres across the Middle East, Far East, and Africa. In India, the group has logistics and procurement centres in 15 states, from where it annually exports INR 10,000 crore worth of over 45,000 MT of agricultural and other products to its 270 retail stores worldwide.

Salim MA highlighted Amritsar's vibrant business environment, especially its thriving SMEs, as a key factor in the group's decision to set up the logistics and food processing centre. The centre will support the local agricultural community and SMEs, as well as create significant job opportunities in the state.

The Lulu Group has also expressed interest in investing INR 2,500 crore to open a mall and a hotel in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. During the UP Global Investors Summit 2023, the group signed a memorandum of understanding with the Uttar Pradesh government to set up six shopping malls and one hotel in the state, which will be located in Noida, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Kanpur, and Prayagraj.

Lulu Group's strategic investments in Amritsar and Noida demonstrate its commitment to the Indian market and its desire to contribute to the growth and development of local communities. These investments are likely to further strengthen the Lulu Group's position as a leading player in the Indian retail and hospitality sectors.
